Mashup Ventures, a prominent early-stage investment firm, has announced a significant enhancement to its leadership team. The firm has appointed Sungmin Yang to the newly created role of AI Partner, a first for the South Korean venture capital industry. Additionally, serial entrepreneurs Hyunwoo Nam and Jaemin Bae have joined as Entrepreneurs in Residence to bolster portfolio support.

Pioneering AI Integration in Venture Capital

The AI Partner position was established to navigate the increasingly complex artificial intelligence sector with greater expertise. This role is central to strengthening Mashup Ventures' investment capabilities and embedding AI technology throughout its entire operational framework. It involves rigorous technical validation of AI startups and providing close support for their technological growth and product enhancement.

Sungmin Yang brings a wealth of experience as a developer, founder, and product leader to his new role. After selling his startup to Loen Entertainment, he led AI software at Nearthlab and product development at Greenlabs. He is now spearheading a project to build AI-native agents for automating investment analysis and fund management.

Strengthening Founder Support with Serial Entrepreneurs

Mashup Ventures maintains a builder-centric philosophy, focusing on helping founders create market-ready products. The introduction of the Entrepreneur in Residence program, a model popular in Silicon Valley, formalizes this hands-on approach. This initiative aims to more actively guide portfolio companies in refining their products and achieving product-market fit.

New EIR Hyunwoo Nam offers deep technical leadership from his time as CTO at both RIDI and Greenlabs. He has extensive experience scaling large engineering teams and integrating modern technology into traditional industries. His primary focus will be on helping portfolio companies overcome complex technical challenges and unlock new growth opportunities.

Jaemin Bae joins as an EIR with a strong background in product and design strategy across diverse sectors. As the former CPO of Integration, he successfully guided a product from its initial concept through market entry and major funding rounds. He will provide portfolio companies with close mentorship on brand strategy and achieving product excellence.

A Strategic Vision for Tech Startups

According to CEO Taekkyung Lee, these appointments demonstrate the firm's profound commitment to the AI industry. The addition of seasoned entrepreneurs who have navigated successful exits and large-scale growth is a key part of this strategy. Their collective expertise will be crucial in helping early-stage startups resolve technical roadblocks and build a global competitive edge.

Mashup Ventures' latest strategic hires mark a pivotal step in advancing specialized support within South Korea's venture capital landscape. By combining a dedicated AI Partner with the practical wisdom of experienced Entrepreneurs in Residence, the firm is uniquely positioned. This new structure aims to cultivate a new generation of tech startups equipped to succeed on the global stage.
