South Korean clean energy startup Lumora has closed a pre-seed funding round to expand its industrial solar energy business across the country. The financing was led by a fund anchored by consumer goods company Yuhan-Kimberly and managed by impact investment firm MYSC, with participation from HGI and other strategic investors. Although the company did not disclose the amount raised, the capital will support project development, operational expansion, and preparations for additional fundraising from international investors.

Addressing South Korea’s Industrial Solar Opportunity

Lumora develops solar projects on factory rooftops, parking structures, and unused industrial land, allowing companies to generate renewable electricity without occupying additional greenfield space. The startup estimates that South Korea’s underused industrial rooftop and parking capacity represents an addressable market worth approximately USD 145 billion. By targeting factories and other energy-intensive facilities, Lumora aims to lower electricity expenses for industrial customers while expanding distributed renewable generation within the country’s existing built environment.

An Ownership-Based Energy Model

Rather than operating only as an installation contractor or collecting project development fees, Lumora intends to own and manage the solar assets it deploys. This independent power producer model allows the company to generate recurring revenue through electricity sales, rooftop leasing arrangements, and long-term energy service agreements. Lumora’s offering includes conventional rooftop solar projects and ZeroOne, a self-consumption subscription designed to help factories access on-site renewable power without paying the full upfront cost of constructing and managing the infrastructure.

Combining Solar Generation and Energy Management

The company is also building a factory energy management system that connects solar production information with real-time electricity consumption data. The platform is intended to help manufacturers increase the amount of solar power they consume directly, manage peak demand, identify inefficiencies, and gain greater visibility into their overall energy use. Lumora plans to combine this technology with energy efficiency projects and other energy services, positioning the business as a broader industrial energy platform rather than a conventional rooftop solar developer.

Commercial Pipeline and Expansion Plans

Since its establishment, Lumora has assembled a nationwide project pipeline totaling 43.6 megawatts, supported partly by co-investment arrangements involving major corporate groups. The company is led by Chief Executive Officer Hyungjun Kim, whose experience includes renewable energy project finance and the development of rooftop solar investment structures, while the wider team has worked on projects in South Korea and several international markets. Lumora has also been selected for South Korea’s 2026 Eco-Startup Growth Program and the nineteenth Startup NEST cohort, providing institutional recognition as it works to convert its development pipeline into operational assets.

The pre-seed round gives Lumora additional resources to pursue an industrial solar strategy based on underused property, direct asset ownership, and software-supported energy management. Its ability to scale will depend on securing sufficient long-term capital, completing projects efficiently, and demonstrating that its subscription and power generation models can produce reliable returns. Successful execution could enable Lumora to build a substantial distributed energy portfolio while helping South Korean manufacturers reduce energy costs, improve efficiency, and increase their use of renewable electricity.
