Toronto-based Kepler Communications has officially launched the first commercial space data relay service, a significant milestone in satellite technology. This new service effectively creates an orbital data centre, enabling real-time, space-based computing for its global customers. The achievement places the Canadian company ahead of major industry players like Amazon and Starlink in the race to build next-generation space infrastructure.


A New Era of Space-Based Computing

Kepler's constellation is now delivering on-demand space operations through its advanced optical data relay network. The system provides resilient connectivity, onboard computing, and hosted payload capabilities to a diverse clientele across commercial and government sectors. This infrastructure supports missions ranging from Earth observation and intelligence to space domain awareness, transforming how data is handled in orbit.

The network's foundation is an IP-based architecture featuring optical inter-satellite links and distributed edge computing. Each satellite is equipped with multiple optical terminals that maintain precise laser connections over thousands of kilometers while moving at incredible speeds. This expansion, which includes a dedicated launch with Rocket Lab, aims to support growing customer demand and increase network capacity.
