Kapso, a Chilean startup that helps developers integrate WhatsApp Business into their products, has raised $1.4 million in a funding round. The company offers the official WhatsApp Business API through an API, a command line interface, and a no-code visual builder. The investment marks a new phase for a platform that already serves more than 28,000 developers worldwide.
From Solo Built Product to Rapid Scale
Kapso was founded by Andrés Matte, a former partner at Platanus Ventures, who built the product largely on his own. During its first months the startup had almost no revenue and only a handful of early users. Matte maintained his focus after noticing consistent weekly usage growth, and that bet now translates into more messages processed in one hour than during all of August 2025.
Why WhatsApp Matters for Developers and AI
WhatsApp is the largest messaging platform in the world, and people already use it daily across generations. It remains one of the few high-quality communication channels where users actually want to engage with businesses. As AI becomes conversational by default, the company argues that WhatsApp will be the natural interface where agents find people and where businesses automate sales and support.
The startup positions itself as a simpler and more affordable alternative to Twilio for the WhatsApp Business API. Developers can connect messages, templates, flows, and AI agents in minutes using Kapso's API, CLI, or visual builder. This approach removes much of the traditional complexity that has made building on WhatsApp difficult.
A Round Closed Without a Pitch Deck
One unusual detail of the funding is that Matte closed the round without a traditional pitch deck. Many investors first became users of Kapso, experienced the product, and then decided to back the company. The group includes Norte Ventures, Latitud, Newtopia, Platanus, Hypersphere, Semilla Ventures, and Chile Ventures.
Prominent angel investors also joined, including Matías Woloski and Damián Schenkelman, co-founders of Auth0, Juan Pablo Cuevas, co-founder of Cornershop, and David de Picciotto, founder of Pledge. More than ten other founders and angels participated in the round. Their shared understanding of WhatsApp as critical infrastructure across Latin America, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Africa, and Europe was a key reason for the collaboration.
Meta Partnership and New Features
Recently Kapso became a Meta Solutions Partner, the highest partner tier in the WhatsApp ecosystem. This status enabled the launch of Kapso Managed Billing, which handles billing complexity with Meta so customers do not have to manage it. In the coming days the company will release additional features to make building on WhatsApp even easier.
Looking beyond immediate product updates, Kapso says it is in the communications infrastructure business. As AI agents begin to act as economic actors, the company sees a new layer of infrastructure to build. The funding will support that roadmap as it consolidates its position among developers building AI-powered experiences on WhatsApp.
With more than three billion WhatsApp users worldwide and growing adoption of AI agents, Kapso is placing itself at the center of a significant market shift. The company has already moved from a solo project to a platform used by tens of thousands of developers without venture backing. Now, with $1.4 million in fresh capital and investors who were users first, Kapso is positioned to expand the technical layer that connects AI and everyday conversations.
