Ionage, an AI-enabled energy management platform operating one of India's most widely networked electric vehicle charging ecosystems, has secured US$1.3 million in Pre-Series A funding. The round, announced on October 7, 2026, was led by strategic investors and a consortium of CXOs from leading global energy and infrastructure companies. The capital will support the company's mission to make EV charging discovery, payment, and reliability more consistent across India.

Funding Purpose and Interoperability Focus

The fresh capital will be used to expand Ionage's coverage to 100% of active charger networks in India, with a focus on small and medium charge point operators. The company operates an asset-light software and interoperability layer that helps restaurant owners, fuel station operators, real estate developers, housing societies, and commercial fleets work together. This approach mirrors how UPI allows different banks to use a common payments infrastructure.

Operational Scale and Momentum

Ionage has onboarded more than 25,000 four-wheeler charge points and supports over 63 fleets, while connecting more than 70% of India's charging hardware at installation across the country. The platform works with a network of more than 75 charging partners and operates in 33 states and Union Territories covering nearly 3,000 cities. The company expects to process monthly energy throughput of more than 20 million units within 12 months, supported by month-over-month growth above 25%.

Addressing Fragmentation in the EV Ecosystem

Chief Executive Officer Vimal Kumar V said that India is set to build millions of charging stations, but drivers still cannot count on finding one that works and paying for it easily. He described the core issue as the absence of a trust layer that operates seamlessly between charge point operators, original equipment manufacturers, real estate owners, and drivers. According to Kumar, Ionage is building a common operating system for chargers so that discoverability and reliability become the default experience.

Market Gaps and Policy Support

India's public charging infrastructure has grown nearly sixfold since 2022, yet nearly two out of every five public chargers remain non-functional. The country's ratio of one charger for every 235 EVs is far behind the global benchmark of one charger for every 6 to 20 EVs, and according to CII and ORF research, India needs over 1.32 million public chargers by 2030. Government support such as FAME, PM E-DRIVE, and production-linked incentives is expected to unlock further efficiencies.

Product Suite and AI Capabilities

Ionage's product portfolio includes Nexus, a charge point operations platform; the Ionage app for discovering, planning, charging, and paying across networks; Flo, a charge point operator and fleet discovery marketplace; and CASA, a home charging management solution. The company also offers a Discovery API and business SDK in closed beta. Ionage has begun using artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to support intelligent load balancing and energy trading across its network.

Future Expansion Priorities

Beyond immediate network coverage, Ionage plans to create and support new charge point operator micro-clusters in Tier 2 urban centers within the next 18 months. The company aims to democratize EV charging access by building an infrastructure layer for discovery, operation, and payment across networks. Its strategy positions Ionage to address the standardization and trust challenges that have been amplified by India's fragmented market.

With US$1.3 million in new funding, Ionage is poised to strengthen the interoperability layer that India's electric vehicle charging market currently lacks. The company's focus on network coverage, small operator enablement, and AI-driven efficiency could help transform charging from a fragmented experience into a dependable utility. As India's EV adoption accelerates, Ionage's platform may play a central role in ensuring that public charging infrastructure keeps pace with on-road demand.
