Infineon Technologies AG has announced the acquisition of C2i Semiconductors, a Bangalore-based startup focused on software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages for artificial intelligence data centers. The transaction, expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026, strengthens Infineon’s power solutions portfolio and expands its engineering presence in India. Financial terms were not disclosed, although C2i Semiconductors had previously raised a $16.7 million Series A round led by Peak XV Partners.
Strategic Rationale and Technology Focus
The acquisition combines C2i Semiconductors’ digital power expertise with Infineon’s broad portfolio of silicon, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride technologies. C2i specializes in intelligent digital power management, multiphase controllers, and system-level power architectures including vertical power delivery and substrate integrated voltage regulators. This supports more adaptive power delivery from grid to core for AI servers and high-performance computing platforms.
Addressing AI Data Center Power Challenges
Software-defined power solutions add intelligent digital control and algorithms to power semiconductors, allowing real-time optimization of power conversion and regulation. As AI processors create highly dynamic power demands, these systems respond faster to sudden load fluctuations while preserving efficiency and stability. Data center operators can therefore reduce power losses and support the rising power density requirements of next-generation AI infrastructure.
Executive Perspectives
Adam White, President of Infineon’s Power Systems division, said the acquisition will create a new center of excellence for digital power technologies in India and accelerate innovation in AI power delivery. Ram Anant, Founder and CEO of C2i Semiconductors, stated that joining Infineon provides access to world-class semiconductor technologies, manufacturing capabilities, and global customer relationships. Both leaders emphasized the value of combining C2i’s experienced engineering team with Infineon’s scale and application expertise.
Expanding India’s Semiconductor Role
The transaction expands Infineon’s innovation footprint in India, where the company already employs approximately 2,800 people. It adds highly specialized software-defined power management expertise to Infineon’s global research and development network. The deal also highlights India’s growing importance as a strategic hub for semiconductor engineering talent amid rising global demand for AI infrastructure.
A Milestone for India’s Startup Ecosystem
C2i Semiconductors was founded in 2024 by Vikram Gakhar, Preetam Charan Anand Tadeparthy, and Ramprasad Ananthaswamy. Its earlier Series A round closed at $16.7 million after additional capital from TDK Ventures, with Peak XV Partners leading the round and Yali Capital participating. The acquisition represents a notable milestone for India’s semiconductor startup ecosystem, as a global chip major buys a young Indian startup focused on power management.
Transaction and Investment Context
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026. The deal aligns with broader Indian government efforts to deepen semiconductor capabilities through initiatives such as Semicon 2.0, which has an outlay of 1.28 lakh crore rupees. Industry projections suggest India’s semiconductor market could reach $155 billion by 2031, up from $62 billion in 2026.
By integrating C2i Semiconductors’ capabilities, Infineon aims to accelerate software-defined power architectures and strengthen its leadership in AI data center power solutions. The move supports next-generation vertical power delivery and future substrate integrated voltage regulators while expanding research and development capacity in India. The transaction underscores how global semiconductor companies are investing in specialized expertise to meet the performance and efficiency demands of AI infrastructure.
