Scottish DeepTech company iGii has secured €26.49 million, equivalent to £22.7 million, in new funding to accelerate commercialisation of its proprietary carbon nanomaterial Gii. The Stirling based business announced that the package combines £11.7 million in Series B equity with £11 million of support from Scottish Enterprise. The Series B round was led by the Scottish National Investment Bank, with additional backing from PXN Ventures and Archangels.

Funding package and strategic backing

The equity component of the funding brings together patient capital and private investment to support iGii's transition from research and development to industrial adoption. Scottish Enterprise is providing a substantial programme of support alongside the Series B investment, reflecting a coordinated approach to scaling high potential technology companies. Chief Executive Jean-Christophe Granier said the backing is a strong endorsement of the team and the opportunity ahead.

From scientific breakthrough to industrial material

Founded in 2016, iGii has developed Gii as a three dimensional porous carbon nanomaterial that is grown rather than mined or compounded. The production process operates at room temperature and can be scaled to industrial volumes using compact automated systems. This approach allows the same material platform to be engineered for applications including sensing, diagnostics, energy storage and industrial products.

Why material innovation matters now

The funding arrives as global manufacturers face growing pressure on supply chains and constrained access to critical materials such as platinum and gold. Geopolitical uncertainty and concentrated sourcing have sharpened the debate around material sovereignty and resilience. iGii argues that advanced materials are central to rebuilding domestic manufacturing capability and reducing dependence on constrained supply.

Commercial roadmap and customer adoption

iGii already has manufacturing capacity capable of supporting large scale production runs across multiple industries. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the company will focus on deepening engagements with global manufacturers and converting existing relationships into long term supply agreements. The investment is expected to move the business from years of research and development into execution.

Team growth and investor confidence

The new funding will also support continued expansion of iGii's workforce, which is expected to reach nearly 70 employees by the end of the year. The company currently employs 55 integrators, including 17 PhDs who collectively speak more than 22 languages. Investors described the technology as having strong potential to disrupt global markets across a broad range of industries.

Partner perspectives

Scottish National Investment Bank associate director Alastair McMillen said the capital attracted by iGii is a strong indicator of the potential for Gii technology. PXN Ventures investment director Aidan MacMillan noted the company has reached real commercial traction after deep patient science. Archangels joint managing director Niki McKenzie added that the round marks a major step for a world class scientific team.

Public sector support for scaling

Scottish Enterprise Chief Executive Adrian Gillespie said the technology is an exciting, sustainable and scalable alternative to constrained raw materials. He noted that its wide variety of applications across high growth industries has the potential to position Scotland at the forefront of advanced materials innovation. Gillespie added that DeepTech companies often require long term backing to bridge the gap between breakthrough research and commercial success.

With this funding package, iGii is positioned to turn a decade of scientific and manufacturing development into commercial scale products. The combination of established production capability, a growing pipeline of major customers and expanded strategic backing strengthens the company's path toward industrial adoption. As advanced materials become increasingly important to supply chain resilience, iGii's progress will be closely watched.
