Hinge Health has signed a definitive agreement to acquire virtual digestive healthcare provider Cylinder Health for $105 million in cash, marking a significant expansion beyond its core musculoskeletal care business. The transaction will give Hinge Health an established platform for entering gastrointestinal care while broadening a portfolio that already includes musculoskeletal and migraine programs. The acquisition, announced on August 4, 2026, is expected to close during the third quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.
Expanding Into Gastrointestinal Care
The deal reflects Hinge Health’s strategy of extending its technology-driven healthcare model into conditions that overlap with the needs of its existing members and employer clients. Gastrointestinal conditions affect roughly one in four adults in the United States and account for approximately $135 billion in annual medical spending, while access to specialized treatment remains limited in many parts of the country. Hinge Health cited data showing that 69% of U.S. counties lack a gastroenterologist, contributing to fragmented care and repeated visits to primary or urgent care providers.
Cylinder Adds an Established Digestive Health Platform
Cylinder Health provides virtual-first support for people experiencing a range of digestive conditions, combining clinical care with personalized nutrition, lifestyle management and other digital services. The company has treated more than 150,000 people and works with nearly 100 clients covering approximately two million lives, while also maintaining partnerships with major pharmacy benefit managers and health plans. Its services address conditions ranging from common digestive symptoms to more complex disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.
Building an Integrated Digital Care Experience
Following the acquisition, Hinge Health plans to combine Cylinder’s digestive health expertise and existing customer footprint with its own AI-powered care model and technology infrastructure. The company expects to introduce an integrated Gastrointestinal Care Program in 2027, allowing members to access digestive, musculoskeletal and migraine support through a single application rather than relying on separate digital health services. Hinge Health also plans to use technology to help members monitor dietary patterns and their physical responses while providing personalized lifestyle recommendations and access to gastrointestinal specialists.
Client Demand Drives Expansion
Hinge Health co-founder and CEO Daniel Perez said the move into gastrointestinal care was driven by demand from both members and clients, particularly because many people receiving care for back, joint, pelvic or migraine conditions also experience chronic digestive issues. The overlap could give Hinge Health opportunities to offer multiple programs to the same population while simplifying healthcare delivery for employers and health plans seeking fewer standalone solutions. Cylinder’s existing relationships with similar customers and distribution partners could also help Hinge Health integrate the business more efficiently and accelerate its entry into the digestive health category.
