Heaviside Industries has officially emerged from stealth with a $28 million Series A financing round aimed at accelerating the development and delivery of autonomous precision munitions for U.S. and allied defense customers. The Los Angeles-based defense technology company said the round was led by Interlagos, with participation from Menlo Ventures, Flume Ventures, Cantos, Anorak Ventures, and several prominent defense and investment figures. The announcement marks a significant step for a company that has spent more than two years building its technology, team, and customer base outside the public spotlight.
Funding to Accelerate Autonomous Defense Systems
The newly raised capital will support Heaviside’s efforts to scale development, production, and deployment of multi-domain autonomous munitions. According to the company, its initial platforms include aerial and underwater systems designed for special operations and conventional forces. The funding is expected to help Heaviside expand deliveries to existing customers in the United States and allied markets.
Heaviside’s technology is focused on precision strike capabilities that can function in highly contested environments. The company says its systems are designed to perform in jammed and GPS-denied conditions, where traditional platforms may lose effectiveness. This focus reflects a broader shift in defense priorities as militaries seek lower-cost, autonomous systems that can operate reliably against sophisticated electronic warfare threats.
Addressing a Changing Battlefield
The company’s launch comes as unmanned systems continue to reshape modern conflict and procurement strategies. Heaviside argues that affordable autonomous strike platforms can help defeat high-value military assets and infrastructure at lower cost than traditional weapons systems. The company also emphasizes the potential for greater precision and reduced collateral damage compared with legacy approaches.
Chief Executive Officer Phillip Walker said the Series A will allow Heaviside to speed the deployment of its platforms to a broader group of established customers. He described the company’s products as built for hyper-precision in environments where communications, navigation, and GPS signals may be disrupted. Walker said the funding would further support adoption of Heaviside’s technology by warfighters.
Investor Support and Strategic Rationale
Investors framed the company’s work as part of a broader need to strengthen American defense capabilities. Scott McNealy, operating partner and investor at Flume Ventures, said investment in U.S. defense remains critical to protecting essential freedoms. He added that Flume Ventures was proud to back Heaviside because of its contribution to the strength of the country’s strategic defense system.
Menlo Ventures partner Matt Kraning pointed to Heaviside’s combination of engineering, manufacturing, and guidance expertise as a key reason for the investment. He said the company brings together engineers behind widely fielded miniaturized military unmanned aerial systems, a manufacturing program with experience shipping tens of thousands of systems, and a guidance team with extensive flight experience in contested environments. Kraning said that depth positions Heaviside to help define the current generation of American defense innovation.
Company Background and Expansion Plans
Founded in 2024, Heaviside has operated in stealth while assembling a team of more than 50 engineers and operators. The company maintains offices in Los Angeles, California, and Oslo, Norway, reflecting its focus on both U.S. and allied defense markets. It also said it has already built a roster of customers across those markets, though it did not disclose specific names.
With the Series A financing secured, Heaviside plans to expand production and accelerate customer deliveries domestically and internationally. The company is entering the public market conversation at a time when defense agencies and investors are paying close attention to autonomous systems, precision munitions, and resilient technologies for contested environments. Its ability to move from development into scaled production will likely be central to how its role in the sector develops.
Heaviside’s emergence from stealth highlights growing investor interest in defense startups building autonomous, cost-conscious, and precision-focused military technologies. The $28 million Series A gives the company fresh capital to advance its aerial and underwater munitions platforms while expanding production capacity and customer deliveries. As modern warfare continues to favor speed, resilience, and autonomy, Heaviside is positioning itself as a new entrant in the evolving defense technology landscape.
