Ottawa-based defense technology firm H2 Analytics has secured C$800,000 in repayable funding from FedDev Ontario to advance its military training exercise development platform. The federal support is part of a broader project valued at more than C$4.2 million to upgrade the company’s Exercise Architect Suite, known as EASE. The planned work will integrate new artificial intelligence features aimed at improving realism, emergency simulation, and planning capabilities for defense and emergency management clients.

Federal Funding and Project Scope

The repayable contribution will primarily support research, development, and the integration of artificial intelligence into the EASE platform. H2 Analytics states that the enhanced system will increase the quality and realism of military training exercises, emergency simulations, and planning workflows. A smaller portion of the capital will also help the company expand its presence in international markets where demand for advanced defense tools is growing.

AI Upgrades for EASE

The new AI features are designed to strengthen EASE as a comprehensive tool for defense organizations that require realistic, adaptive, and data-driven training environments. H2 Analytics expects the improvements to support more effective emergency response planning, operational readiness, and complex scenario development for military and civilian customers. These upgrades reflect the company’s broader strategy to embed advanced automation, simulation, and analytical capabilities into its core software suite.

International Expansion and Client Focus

H2 Analytics is currently at varying levels of market entry across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. The company is not disclosing specific clients, but it continues to pursue opportunities with foreign defense, security, and emergency management organizations. The federal repayable funding is intended to support that international growth while the core project remains focused on domestic research and development.

Government Validation and Market Access

CEO Hugo Hodgett told BetaKit that capital helps the company grow both its market side and its research and development activities. He added that the Government of Canada’s validation serves as an important data point when H2 Analytics engages with international partners. According to Hodgett, this backing reduces some of the barriers to working with foreign governments and defense agencies.

Bootstrapped Origins and Recognition

H2 Analytics was featured in BetaKit’s 2026 Most Ambitious issue as part of a group of defense companies that bootstrapped through a difficult capital environment. The firm remained independent years before Canada began its push to re-arm and reinvest in its armed forces. Hodgett confirmed that H2 Analytics is still bootstrapped despite the new federal support and the company’s recent growth.

Workforce Growth and Revenue Outlook

The company recently placed 52nd on The Globe and Mail’s Top Growing Companies list with a three-year revenue growth rate of 552%. H2 Analytics has added 22 employees in the last six months, reflecting its expanding operations and increased demand for its platform. Hodgett added that the company is projecting another year of doubling its undisclosed revenue as it scales its team and market reach.

The federal backing positions H2 Analytics to deepen its artificial intelligence capabilities while pursuing new international defense opportunities. Its bootstrapped approach, rapid revenue growth, and expanding workforce highlight a resilient path through Canada’s evolving defense sector. With upgraded simulation technology and stronger market validation, the company is well positioned to strengthen its role in military training and emergency planning for years to come.
