Pune-based green energy startup Greenjoules has secured approximately ₹62 crore ($6.5 million) in a Series B funding round. The investment was led by Amazon’s investment arm, Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings, with significant participation from Singularity Strategic Autonomy Fund. This capital infusion is set to accelerate the company's mission of converting agricultural waste into advanced renewable fuels.

Details of the Strategic Funding

According to regulatory filings, Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings LLC spearheaded the round by acquiring 40,338 Series B1 preference shares for ₹45 crore. This substantial investment highlights the global e-commerce giant's growing commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The move positions Amazon as a key supporter in Greenjoules' expansion plans within the burgeoning cleantech sector.

Complementing the lead investment, Singularity Strategic Autonomy Fund contributed approximately ₹17 crore for 15,238 Series B1 preference shares. While the specifics of this tranche have been disclosed, Greenjoules has refrained from commenting on the total anticipated size of the ongoing Series B round. This strategic silence may suggest that further investments could be part of the company's broader capital-raising strategy.

Pioneering Waste-to-Energy Technology

Founded in 2018 by S Viraraghavan, V Radhika, VS Shridhar, and R Sethunath, Greenjoules specializes in converting farm residues into green fuels. These renewable fuels are designed to be compatible with existing diesel engines and industrial equipment, offering a direct substitute for crude oil. This innovative process effectively transforms agricultural byproducts into a valuable and sustainable energy resource.

Looking ahead, the startup is actively engaged in research and development to produce next-generation biofuels. Greenjoules is exploring solutions for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green hydrogen, and biomethane. These initiatives are aimed at addressing decarbonization challenges in some of the most energy-intensive industrial sectors.

Alignment with National Climate Goals

This investment closely aligns with India's ambitious national goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. The funding for Greenjoules reflects a broader trend of private capital supporting ventures that contribute to the nation's low-carbon development pathway. Such partnerships are considered crucial for accelerating the country's transition toward a greener economy.

The Indian cleantech market presents a significant opportunity, with projections estimating its value could reach $152.5 billion by 2030. This rapidly growing market provides a fertile environment for innovative companies like Greenjoules to scale their operations effectively. The recent funding round positions the startup to better capitalize on this expanding demand for renewable energy solutions.

The successful funding round, led by a major global investor like Amazon, marks a significant milestone for Greenjoules. This capital will not only fuel the company's expansion and R&D efforts but also reinforces the commercial viability of waste-to-energy technologies. As India progresses towards its climate targets, Greenjoules is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the nation's renewable energy future.
