Forbion announced on October 6, 2026, that it has raised €2.3 billion (US$2.6 billion) across its two newest funds, marking the firm's largest fundraising to date. The total ranks among the largest life sciences venture capital fundraisings completed globally over the last five years. The raise lifts Forbion's assets under management to approximately €7.5 billion and reinforces its position as Europe's largest dedicated life sciences venture capital firm.

Fund Structure and Deployment

Proceeds will be deployed through Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund IV and Forbion Ventures Fund VIII, supporting venture and growth stage life sciences companies across Europe and North America. Together, the two funds can provide financing to approximately 30 high-potential portfolio companies over their investment periods. Forbion has already completed its first investments from these vehicles, signaling an immediate pipeline of opportunities.

Investor Demand

The fundraising substantially exceeded its target and was conducted at pace, reflecting robust demand despite a broader shortage of available capital. Participants included institutions and corporates such as MN, PGGM, KfW Capital, the Kauffman Foundation, and Eli Lilly and Company. Existing and new investors provided broad-based support, which Forbion views as a powerful endorsement of its track record.

Deployment Strategy

Sander Slootweg, Managing Partner and Co-Founder, said the fresh capital provides significant dry powder in an environment where capital is generally scarce. He said Forbion will select the most exciting biotech companies and continue building those that develop paradigm-shifting treatments for true unmet medical needs. The firm expects these investments to deliver both patient impact and strong financial returns.

Leadership View

Robbert van de Griendt, General Partner for Investor Relations and Impact, noted that leading investors have again placed confidence in Forbion's ability to deploy capital successfully. He said achieving the firm's largest fundraising in a demanding market environment validates its consistent record of generating impactful returns. The raise was driven by high-caliber institutional demand and completed ahead of expectations.

Track Record and Patient Impact

Forbion's latest fundraising builds on two decades of activity as a specialist life sciences investor across Europe and North America. Since inception, the firm has financed 142 companies and created 37 of them through its venture and growth strategies. Its portfolio companies have delivered 21 approved medical products, benefiting more than 1.6 million patients globally.

European Leadership and Scale

With approximately €7.5 billion in assets under management, Forbion is positioned as Europe's largest dedicated life sciences venture capital firm. The latest closing also ranks among the sector's largest global fundraisings over the past five years. This scale gives Forbion the ability to lead follow-on rounds, support portfolio companies through later stages, and collaborate with strategic investors across key markets.

The new funds provide Forbion with substantial capital at a time when many life sciences companies face constrained financing options. By pairing this fresh capital with its two-decade track record, the firm expects to expand its role in translating high-quality science into high-impact biotechs. The successful close highlights investor confidence in specialized venture strategies and in the long-term opportunities within the life sciences sector.
