Lucknow-based specialty ingredients startup Arboreal Bioinnovations has successfully secured ₹230 crore, approximately $24 million, in its Series A funding round. The investment was co-led by EAAA Alternatives and Omnivore, with continued support from existing investor Rainmatter by Zerodha. This significant capital infusion is set to propel the company's growth in the burgeoning food and nutraceutical ingredient sector.

Strategic Allocation of Capital

Arboreal Bioinnovations plans to strategically deploy the new capital to significantly expand its manufacturing capacity and enhance its research and development capabilities. Co-founder Manish Chauhan stated that the funding will enable deeper investment in science, talent, and long-term innovation. The primary goal is to accelerate the commercialisation of its next generation of functional ingredients for a global client base.

Pioneering Ingredient Technology

Founded in 2018 by Swati Pandey and Manish Chauhan, Arboreal operates as a business-to-business entity developing proprietary ingredients for various brands. Its diverse portfolio includes proteins, natural zero-calorie sweeteners, cocoa-based ingredients, and functional fibres. These components are engineered to meet specific nutritional, sensory, and commercial needs of their clients in the food industry.

The company has demonstrated significant market traction, currently serving over 1,100 consumer brands and nutraceutical manufacturers across India. Its innovative ingredients have been instrumental in powering more than 300 new product launches over the past 18 months. This success underscores the strong demand for its custom-engineered solutions in a competitive market.

Investor Confidence and Market Trends

This investment marks the first from EAAA Alternatives' Discovery Fund II, highlighting strong investor confidence in Arboreal's potential. Ashish Agarwal of EAAA Alternatives noted that the decision was anchored in the rising consumer awareness around protein consumption. He expressed excitement about partnering with the founders to build a category-leading business centered on next-generation yeast protein.

The funding arrives amidst a growing market demand for clean-label, functional, and scientifically validated food ingredients. Brands are increasingly focusing on protein enrichment, sugar reduction, and products that support gut health. This industry shift creates a significant opportunity for specialized ingredient manufacturers like Arboreal to thrive and innovate.

Vision for the Future

Co-founder and CEO Swati Pandey described the fundraise as a strong validation of the company's strategic direction. She emphasized that the capital provides the necessary fuel to accelerate their mission of creating clean, science-led solutions. The company aims to address global nutritional challenges with innovations developed and originating from within India.

This Series A funding round is a pivotal moment for Arboreal Bioinnovations, equipping it with the resources to scale its operations significantly. The investment not only validates its innovative approach but also positions the company to become a leader in the specialty food ingredients market. By focusing on science-backed solutions, Arboreal is well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of health-conscious consumers worldwide.
