Flexprice, an open-source billing platform for AI-centric companies, has secured $1.5 million in seed funding. The round was led by Shastra VC and co-led by Anupam Mittal and TDV Partners, which also increased its prior investment. This new capital will fuel the company's mission to modernize revenue infrastructure for the rapidly growing AI economy.

Addressing a Market Shift

The rise of AI has exposed a critical flaw in traditional billing systems, which were built for simple subscription plans. Modern AI companies charge customers based on usage metrics like API calls or token consumption. This complexity creates significant operational challenges for businesses relying on outdated infrastructure that cannot support such dynamic pricing.

This market gap is a pressing issue as software pricing shifts from seat-based to usage-based models. Billing systems account for a substantial portion of operating costs, yet the sector has seen minimal innovation. Legacy platforms are ill-equipped to handle the high infrastructure costs and fluctuating usage patterns inherent to modern AI services.

A Purpose-Built Platform

Flexprice addresses this with its open-source, real-time billing platform built for the demands of modern AI products. The system is engineered to manage complex pricing models, including pay-as-you-go, prepaid credits, and tiered volumes. This provides companies with the essential flexibility to scale their monetization strategies effectively and without traditional constraints.

The platform's architecture leverages technologies like Go and Kafka to process massive data volumes at sub-second latency. Its open-source and self-hostable design gives businesses greater control over their revenue stack and helps them avoid vendor lock-in. Companies can implement a complete billing system with just a few API integrations without overhauling existing data pipelines.

Fueling Growth and Expansion

The company has already demonstrated impressive market traction, reflecting the urgent need for its solution. Flexprice's revenue grew six-fold last quarter, and its platform now processes over 20 billion events monthly. This rapid growth underscores the strong demand from AI companies seeking robust and scalable billing infrastructure to support their operations.

The new $1.5 million will be deployed to accelerate global expansion across the United States and Europe. A significant portion of the funding will also be allocated to product development. The goal is to extend Flexprice's capabilities beyond billing into areas like metering, revenue recognition, and AI-native financial reporting.

Investor Confidence and Vision

Investor confidence is strong, with lead investor Shastra VC highlighting the platform's unique position. Avijeet Alagathi, a partner at the firm, noted that traditional systems are breaking under new AI business models. He emphasized that Flexprice's engineering vision for a purpose-built platform addresses a universal and urgent industry need.

This sentiment was echoed by Ujwal Sutaria of TDV Partners, who pointed to a generational shift in software pricing. He stated that Flexprice is building the foundational infrastructure required for this new paradigm driven by AI and usage-based models. The company's open-source strategy and clear vision position it to become a category leader in the revenue stack.

According to CEO Manish Choudhary, billing is just the foundational layer of a much larger objective. The company's ultimate vision is to deliver full revenue automation, from the initial usage event to the final dollar recognized. This will empower AI companies to iterate on their monetization in real time without being hindered by legacy systems.

With its successful seed funding, Flexprice is well-capitalized to pursue its vision of redefining revenue infrastructure for the AI era. The company's specialized platform directly addresses the complex billing challenges faced by a rapidly growing market of AI-native businesses. As usage-based pricing becomes the norm, Flexprice is positioned to become an essential component of the modern software stack.
