AI infrastructure firm Firmus Technologies has announced a definitive agreement to acquire the Fabrication, Design, and Projects businesses of Benmax for A$300 million. This strategic acquisition is set to significantly enhance Firmus' vertically integrated AI Factory Platform. The HyperCube Platform
Central to this strategy is the HyperCube, Firmus' modular AI Factory system designed and manufactured in regional New South Wales by Benmax. This innovative platform enables the rapid construction of AI Factories with a focus on sustainability. Its design incorporates advanced liquid cooling and mechanical integration to substantially reduce energy and water consumption.
The acquisition represents a logical progression in a partnership that began in 2020. Benmax has been a crucial collaborator, working alongside Firmus to co-design and manufacture successive generations of the modular platform. Expanding Global Footprint
The HyperCube platform has already demonstrated its effectiveness, having been successfully adapted for a CDC facility in Melbourne over the past year. It is currently being deployed in Firmus' new AI Factory development in Tasmania. Manufacturing activities will also support the company's recent expansion into Southeast Asia, where it will partner with DayOne for project delivery.
Leadership and Workforce Growth
As part of the transaction, Benmax Managing Director Scott Polsen will join Firmus as its new Chief Development Officer. His appointment broadens the company's leadership expertise from engineering to project delivery as it scales its AI Factory portfolio. The acquisition will more than double Firmus' global workforce to 340, expanding its in-house capabilities significantly.
Firmus Co-Founder and Co-CEO Oliver Curtis stated that the acquisition aligns with the company's long-term strategy.
