Stockholm-based startup Fika Jobs has successfully secured $4 million in a pre-seed funding round to advance its innovative hiring platform. The company aims to transform recruitment by replacing traditional resumes with AI-powered video interviews and dynamic candidate profiles. The investment, led by Luminar Ventures, will fuel the platform's development and prepare it for a wider market launch later this year.

A New Approach to Recruitment

Fika Jobs addresses the growing inefficiencies in the hiring process, where AI-generated applications are often met with automated screening tools. The platform offers a unique alternative by allowing candidates to complete a 10-minute conversational interview with an AI agent. This interaction generates a video-based profile that highlights a candidate's skills, ambitions, and personality beyond the limitations of a paper resume.

The Candidate-Centric Model

The process begins with a job seeker connecting their LinkedIn profile, which Fika's AI uses to generate personalized interview questions. Candidates then record their responses in a brief video session powered by Google's Gemini models. The system automatically edits these responses into short, digestible clips, creating a live profile that employers can discover for current and future opportunities.

Founder's Vision and Market Differentiation

The inspiration for Fika Jobs came from the personal experiences of its founders, brothers Jakob and Alexander Dubois. They realized that crucial traits like drive and ambition were often invisible on a resume, nearly causing them to overlook a star candidate. Unlike competitors focused on employer-side screening, Fika empowers candidates to build a comprehensive profile that showcases their true potential.

Addressing Potential Biases in Hiring

While video profiles offer deeper insights, they also introduce the risk of discrimination based on appearance, age, or gender. Fika Jobs proactively addresses this challenge by anonymizing certain attributes during the initial matching phase to support fairer hiring decisions. This approach aims to mitigate unconscious bias and help employers focus on qualifications and cultural fit early in the process.

Strategic Funding and Future Plans

The $4 million in capital will be used to enhance the platform, expand the team, and orchestrate a broader launch. The funding round saw participation from Alliance VC and notable angel investors Sebastian Knutsson and Riccardo Zacconi, the co-founders of King. Fika Jobs plans to open early access soon, with a full public launch scheduled for the fall, initially targeting the Swedish market.

Business Model and Early Traction

The platform is free for all job seekers, adopting a success-based model for employers. Companies only pay a 10% fee based on a candidate's first-year salary upon a successful hire, a rate significantly lower than traditional recruitment agencies. Ahead of its public launch, Fika Jobs has already attracted a waitlist of over 100 companies and has been tested by more than 50 firms.

Fika Jobs is entering the competitive recruitment technology space with a distinct, candidate-first model and substantial pre-seed funding. Its innovative use of AI and video aims to make hiring more personal and efficient for both job seekers and employers. The company's ultimate success will hinge on its ability to scale its platform while effectively managing the ethical considerations inherent in video-based evaluations.
