Evertec has completed the acquisition of a 67% stake in Connecting Blocks Consultoria, the São Paulo company operating under the BBChain Tecnologia Blockchain brand, expanding its position in Brazil’s digital-asset infrastructure market. The transaction closed after receiving the required regulatory clearances, including approval from Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense, and completing the agreed financial settlement under the previously announced terms. With BBChain now part of the group, Evertec is adding specialized blockchain, tokenization, and digital-custody capabilities to a portfolio already serving financial institutions across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Transaction Details

The acquisition agreement was initially announced in May 2026 and involved an initial investment of BRL 28 million for the controlling interest, according to reports published when the deal was signed. Its completion gives Evertec majority ownership of a business founded in 2018 to build blockchain infrastructure for regulated financial institutions and capital-markets participants. The deal strengthens Evertec’s presence in Brazil while giving BBChain access to a larger operating platform, broader customer relationships, additional investment capacity, and resources that could accelerate both product development and commercial expansion.

BBChain’s Technology Role

BBChain develops infrastructure designed to support asset tokenization, digital custody, and enterprise blockchain applications within the technical and regulatory requirements of Brazil’s financial system. Its technology is intended for banks, investment funds, fixed-income businesses, lenders, and other institutions seeking to issue, manage, transfer, or safeguard digital representations of financial assets without abandoning established compliance controls. The company has also participated in regulatory initiatives and industry pilot programs, experience that may help Evertec address the governance, privacy, interoperability, security, and oversight demands associated with institutional blockchain adoption.

Strategic Fit in Brazil

For Evertec, the acquisition extends its offering beyond established payment-processing and financial-software services into infrastructure supporting tokenized assets and other emerging digital-finance products. Claudio Prado, Evertec’s executive vice president and head of operations in Brazil, said BBChain adds complementary expertise and enables the company to provide a more complete technology journey for clients operating across funds, fixed income, and credit. The integration also reflects Evertec’s broader approach of acquiring specialized businesses, modernizing their platforms, and using greater scale, cross-selling opportunities, and operating efficiency to expand their relevance among financial-sector customers.

Regional Growth Opportunity

Brazil is expected to serve as the initial base for combining BBChain’s blockchain capabilities with Evertec’s existing regional technology, distribution, and customer network. Evertec plans to continue investing in the country, particularly in platform modernization, portfolio development, local talent, and solutions that help financial institutions operate securely in an increasingly digital, innovative, and competitive market. The company also sees an opportunity to adapt the model for other Latin American markets, although expansion will depend on customer demand, regulatory conditions, implementation costs, and the readiness of local financial ecosystems.

The completed acquisition gives Evertec control of a specialized Brazilian blockchain provider at a time when financial institutions are exploring tokenization, custody, and distributed-ledger infrastructure for regulated use cases. BBChain gains the backing of a larger Latin American financial-technology group, while Evertec gains technical capabilities that can complement its payment, banking, funds, lending, and credit solutions. The success of the transaction will ultimately depend on how effectively the companies integrate their platforms, convert technical expertise into reliable institutional products, win adoption among regulated customers, and replicate the offering beyond Brazil.
