Energy Impact Partners has expanded its investment presence in the Nordic region, strengthening a long-standing relationship with Norwegian state-backed investor Nysnø Climate Investments. Announced on August 3, 2026, the move reflects the global energy investment firm’s belief that Norway and neighboring markets will produce a significant share of the companies shaping the next generation of energy systems. The expansion will also give Nordic founders closer access to EIP’s international capital, industry relationships, and investment platform.
A Stronger Nordic Investment Strategy
EIP views Norway as an especially attractive market because of its technical expertise, mature energy sector, industrial capacity, and growing entrepreneurial base. The firm expects these strengths to support businesses addressing major challenges across power generation, distribution, storage, digital infrastructure, and industrial decarbonization. By increasing its local presence, EIP aims to identify promising companies earlier and build deeper relationships with founders throughout the region.
The Nordic expansion builds on EIP’s existing strategic partnership with Nysnø, which is an investor in the firm’s $1.36 billion flagship fund. The two organizations intend to connect locally developed technologies with EIP’s broader network across venture capital, growth equity, private equity, and credit. This structure could help Nordic energy startups secure not only financing, but also commercial expertise and introductions to global energy and industrial companies.
Partnership With Nysnø
Nysnø Climate Investments is owned by Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and manages NOK 5.4 billion in assets. Its mandate covers companies and funds developing technologies that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including solutions in renewable energy, digital systems, resource efficiency, sustainable consumption, and the circular economy. The expanded partnership aligns Nysnø’s local market knowledge and public climate mandate with EIP’s international investment reach.
Lars Hvam, investment director at Nysnø, said the organization has observed the quality of founders and companies emerging from the Nordic energy ecosystem. He argued that these businesses increasingly need partners capable of helping them expand beyond their domestic markets. EIP’s sector specialization and global relationships were presented as central reasons for deepening the institutional partnership.
Local Team Expansion
To support the strategy, EIP has appointed Oslo-based Vice President Johann Bleivik Wist to its European investment team. Wist will focus on sourcing opportunities and investing in innovative startups across the Nordic region, while developing long-term relationships with local entrepreneurs. His appointment gives the firm a permanent regional presence and a direct point of contact for companies seeking international growth support.
EIP said it will continue evaluating both early-stage and growth-stage opportunities across the Nordic market. Although the expansion increases its regional focus, the firm will remain globally integrated, with investment activity spanning North America, Europe, and other international energy markets. This approach allows Nordic portfolio companies to benefit from experience and connections developed across several geographies and investment strategies.
Broader Investment Platform
Energy Impact Partners manages more than $5 billion and works with over 80 corporate partners across the energy and industrial sectors. Its investment activities cover venture capital, growth, private equity, and credit, with more than 100 professionals operating from offices including New York, San Francisco, Washington, Atlanta, London, Cologne, and Oslo. The firm uses its corporate ecosystem to connect technology companies with potential customers, strategic partners, and industry expertise.
EIP’s expanded Nordic presence signals growing institutional interest in the region’s energy technology and climate innovation pipeline. By combining local sourcing through its Oslo team, Nysnø’s knowledge of the Norwegian market, and EIP’s international investment network, the partnership is positioned to support companies seeking to scale beyond the Nordics. The initiative also reinforces Norway’s role as an important testing ground and launch market for technologies serving the evolving global energy economy.
