London-based deep tech startup Embedd has successfully secured $2.7 million in a pre-seed funding round to accelerate the development of physical artificial intelligence. The investment was led by Seedcamp and will fuel the company's mission to automate the complex software integration for intelligent machines. Embedd's platform is designed to bridge the gap between hardware and software, a critical bottleneck in industries like robotics, automotive, and healthcare.


Addressing a Fundamental Bottleneck in Physical AI

The rapid growth of physical AI is hampered by a significant software challenge, as every intelligent device relies on dozens of chips that lack a common language. Engineers currently spend months manually writing integration code by deciphering thousands of pages of technical documentation. This laborious process creates a major bottleneck, slowing down innovation and delaying the deployment of next-generation technologies.

Embedd tackles this issue with an innovative AI-powered platform that creates a digital twin of the hardware components. This model provides AI agents with the necessary context to automatically generate the integration code, making each chip usable by the software layer. The company reports that its solution can reduce a four-to-six-month process to just three weeks, delivering production-ready software up to six times faster.

Strategic Investment and Market Validation

Lead investor Seedcamp views Embedd as a crucial enabler for the future of AI, which is increasingly moving into the physical world. Carlos Eduardo Espinal, General Partner at Seedcamp, stated that the company is tackling a fundamental challenge facing numerous high-growth industries. This investment reflects confidence in Embedd's potential to build the essential infrastructure for the next wave of intelligent machines.

The funding round also saw participation from Cocoa, Connect Ventures, 2100 Ventures, and several other venture capital firms. Embedd plans to allocate the new capital toward enhancing its platform and expanding its strategic partnerships with semiconductor companies. This will help more chipmakers integrate their devices into emerging and established software ecosystems with greater efficiency.

From Adversity to Innovation

The company was founded in 2023 by Ukrainian entrepreneurs Michael Lazarenko, Maxim Gorinov, and Valentin Gololobov. Their previous hardware company was severely impacted by pandemic-era chip shortages and later disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This direct experience with hardware supply chain volatility and integration challenges became the catalyst for creating Embedd.

Witnessing the recurring cycle of rewriting firmware for different components convinced the founders that the integration problem would only intensify. They channeled their experience into developing a solution that works directly within chipmakers' existing ecosystems. This approach is designed to solve a deep-seated industry problem that they intimately understand from their past venture.

Early Traction and Industry Impact

Despite its recent founding, Embedd has already gained significant traction, securing contracts with multiple semiconductor companies. A notable partnership is with Microchip Technology, one of the world's largest chipmakers. Embedd is currently working with Microchip to enable support for the Zephyr real-time operating system, showcasing its platform's real-world applicability.

Rodger Richey, a vice president at Microchip, highlighted the shifting competitive landscape, where ease of use is becoming paramount. He noted that the collaboration with Embedd helps Microchip meet developers within their preferred software environments rather than forcing them to adopt new platforms. This strategy makes Microchip's silicon more accessible and easier for developers to build upon.


With this new $2.7 million in funding, Embedd is well-positioned to address a critical friction point in the burgeoning physical AI sector. The investment validates the company's innovative approach to automating hardware-software integration and will accelerate its growth. As intelligent machines become more prevalent, Embedd's foundational technology could become indispensable for unlocking the full potential of robotics, autonomous vehicles, and advanced manufacturing.
