Elastic has completed its acquisition of Deductive AI, an AI-powered investigation platform that helps engineering teams identify and resolve production issues. Announced on August 24, 2026, the deal adds automated root cause analysis technology to Elastic Observability. The acquisition supports Elastic's push to use AI to accelerate incident detection, investigation, and resolution.
Expanding Elastic Observability
Modern software environments have become increasingly distributed and interconnected, generating large volumes of telemetry across applications, infrastructure, networks, and services. Despite having access to more operational data, engineering teams often still spend significant time manually combining information from different tools to determine what happened during an incident, why it occurred, and how it should be resolved. Elastic said Deductive AI addresses this challenge by taking on more of the investigative process while allowing engineers to remain involved in evaluating findings and making operational decisions.
AI-Powered Root Cause Analysis
Deductive AI has developed an AI-powered site reliability engineering agent that gathers evidence, develops and tests hypotheses, and reasons across code, telemetry, and organizational knowledge to determine the root causes of production problems. Unlike tools primarily focused on summarizing alerts or suggesting areas for further investigation, its technology is designed to conduct a larger portion of the diagnostic process automatically. The platform's investigation engine also learns which approaches produce useful evidence and successful outcomes, allowing insights from previous incidents to improve how future investigations are conducted.
Combining Technologies
Elastic plans to combine Deductive AI's investigation capabilities with its own technology for identifying meaningful entities, relationships, and significant operational events across large volumes of telemetry data. Elastic Chief Executive Officer Ash Kulkarni said Deductive AI's reinforcement learning capabilities complement the company's existing work to bring more artificial intelligence into its observability products and accelerate the path from detection to resolution. The combined technologies are intended to provide engineering teams with deeper operational context while reducing the amount of manual analysis required during complex production incidents.
Deductive AI Joins Elastic
Deductive AI cofounder and former Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Kothari said joining Elastic will allow the company's technology to reach a much larger audience while accelerating development of AI-powered investigation capabilities. He said Deductive AI was built around the belief that engineering teams should not have to spend hours manually tracing the root causes of every incident, particularly as technology environments become more complicated. Existing Deductive AI customers will continue receiving support while Elastic develops its integration plans, with additional information about the product roadmap expected to be announced in the coming months.
