On September 17, 2026, Comp AI, an AI-native compliance and security platform headquartered in Miami, announced a $34 million Series A funding round led by Roo Capital and Grand Ventures. The investment follows rapid growth since the company's founding in January 2025, including 15 times year-over-year annual recurring revenue expansion and more than 1,000 customers. The new capital will support a broader push from compliance automation into continuous cybersecurity capabilities powered by agentic AI.

Funding and Growth Milestones

The Series A brings Comp AI's total funding to date to $37.5 million and positions the company to accelerate product, engineering, and go-to-market expansion. Founded by CEO Lewis Carhart, COO Claudio Fuentes, and CTO Mariano Fuentes, the startup initially focused on making SOC 2 compliance faster and less manual. Its customer base now spans healthcare, financial services, higher education, professional services, and software, including companies such as Corgi, Dub, OpenCode, Inference, and Primer.

Founding Origins and Early Traction

The company was incubated by a team that previously built LeapAI, a workflow platform that grew to more than one million users before the founders decided it lacked a sticky enough use case. That experience taught the team how to build with large language models and exposed the burden of SOC 2 compliance when pursuing enterprise customers. The founders then created Comp AI to automate security and compliance work while maintaining human approval for consequential agent actions.

Agentic AI Beyond Traditional Compliance

Comp AI said agentic AI allows software to perform and validate work that previously required ongoing human involvement, moving beyond periodic security snapshots. The platform uses organizational context and AI agents to automate onboarding, policy and risk generation, evidence gathering, control monitoring, and vendor assessments. The company states that this approach helps software teams achieve compliance in days rather than quarters while preserving rigor.

Expanding Into Continuous Cybersecurity

With the Series A, Comp AI plans to expand into real-time monitoring, control validation, and security testing across applications and infrastructure. The startup also offers AI-powered penetration testing that proactively examines codebases and infrastructure for vulnerabilities. Co-founder and CEO Lewis Carhart said security software should understand the business, perform the work, and respond as risk changes.

Market Context and Investor Perspective

Investors framed the company as part of a new wave of security platforms built for the agentic era. Roo Capital Principal Varun Sridhar said businesses can no longer treat compliance as an annual box-checking exercise and praised the team for building a continuous platform. Grand Ventures General Partner Nathan Owen noted that portfolio companies have moved to Comp AI from other platforms and highlighted the startup's rapid customer growth.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

COO Claudio Fuentes said historical compliance approximated security because much of the work was manual and periodic, while agentic AI changes that constraint. CTO Mariano Fuentes added that as models become more capable, software can move from recording security work to executing and verifying it. The founders emphasized that human oversight remains essential, with safeguards increasing as agents take on more consequential actions.

Comp AI's new funding arrives as AI accelerates both software development and the threats against it, creating demand for real-time security and compliance. The company plans to expand its team across its Miami headquarters and New York office while serving larger organizations with increasingly complex security requirements. By building around what AI agents can now do, Comp AI is positioning itself to address a faster and more dynamic threat landscape.
