CHAOS Industries has acquired Atropos Group, combining its radar, sensing, networking, and effector technologies with an aerospace startup focused on autonomous aircraft. Announced on July 29, 2026, the transaction is intended to create an integrated mobile platform that can detect, track, engage, and defeat aerial and other threats while operating on the move. Financial terms were not disclosed, while the entire Atropos team will join CHAOS as part of the deal, linking two businesses working on different parts of the counter-drone and autonomous defense market.


Expanding Into Autonomous Air Systems

The acquisition marks a significant expansion for CHAOS, which has primarily built counter-drone radar, sensor, network, and defense systems manufactured at its facilities in the United States. Adding Atropos brings aircraft design, autonomous flight software, systems engineering, and airframe production into the company’s portfolio, allowing it to connect threat detection with airborne response capabilities. Founded in 2022, CHAOS has raised about $1 billion from investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners, providing substantial resources to expand manufacturing and develop a wider range of defense products.

Building a Mobile Counter-UAS Platform

At the center of the transaction is a plan to shorten the counter-unmanned aircraft systems response chain by integrating sensors, platforms, software, and effectors within one organization. The resulting system is expected to support operations against drones and other threats without requiring a fixed defensive position, an approach that could improve mobility, reaction time, and adaptability in contested environments. CHAOS is positioning vertical integration as a way to develop, manufacture, test, and deploy these systems more quickly while maintaining greater control over the interaction between radar hardware, autonomous software, aircraft, and effectors.

Atropos Brings Rapid Development Progress

Founded in 2025, Atropos develops unmanned aircraft for contested logistics, commercial cargo, surveillance, strike, and mission-adaptable operations, using a clean-sheet utility aircraft design rather than modifying a legacy platform. During its first year, the company completed six major design iterations, flew a one-fifth-scale prototype, began the Federal Aviation Administration certification process, and completed a conceptual design review for a large autonomous aircraft. It also advanced the initial design of a modular long-range surveillance and strike platform, demonstrating the rapid engineering, integration, and testing capabilities that CHAOS plans to incorporate into its expanded product strategy.

Leadership and Integration

The deal creates a new CHAOS Aerospace Division led by Atropos co-founder Vince “Dutch” Dutcavich, whose previous experience includes work at Shield AI, Anduril, and the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office. Atropos co-founder Colin Carroll will become CHAOS Industries’ chief growth officer, overseeing business development, capture strategy, and customer relationships after holding leadership positions at Applied Intuition and Anduril. CHAOS said retaining the Atropos team will preserve continuity for existing customers while strengthening the combined company’s technical, commercial, and operational capabilities as it pursues programs across defense, critical infrastructure protection, and autonomous aviation.


The Atropos acquisition moves CHAOS beyond its established sensing and counter-drone business into the design and production of autonomous airborne platforms. By bringing radar, autonomy, aircraft engineering, manufacturing, networks, and effectors under one corporate structure, the company aims to offer defense customers a more integrated and mobile response to rapidly evolving aerial threats. The transaction also supports CHAOS’ broader effort to develop domestically manufactured defense systems that can be produced at scale and adapted for changing operational conditions across multiple mission environments.
