Carbon Upcycling Technologies has appointed Markus Kritzler as its new Chief Executive Officer to spearhead its next phase of growth. This strategic move sees co-founder Apoorv Sinha transition to the role of President. The leadership shuffle is designed to accelerate the company's commercial expansion across North America and Europe as it scales its innovative cement technology.

A Strategic Shift for Scalable Growth

The appointment follows a pivotal year for the company, which marked its transition from technology validation to full-scale commercial execution. A recent US$18 million funding round, led by Builders Vision, is fueling the construction of its first commercial plant. This facility, located at the Ash Grove Mississauga Cement Plant, is a key step toward its ambitious goals.

Carbon Upcycling is now focused on deploying five million tonnes of annual clean cementitious capacity within the next five years. This leadership realignment prioritizes operational excellence, efficient project delivery, and scalable growth. The company is positioning itself to meet the increasing demand for sustainable and domestically produced building materials.

Experienced Leadership for a New Era

Markus Kritzler brings over two decades of executive experience in the building materials and financial industries to his new role. He previously served as the company's Chief Revenue Officer since joining in spring 2025, where he was instrumental in developing the project pipeline. His background includes a key strategic role at Holcim during its landmark merger with Lafarge.

Kritzler's extensive industry knowledge is considered vital for navigating the company's commercial scale-up and project delivery. He expressed his commitment to leveraging the company's industry-defining technology to help partners meet demand for clean materials. His leadership is expected to be crucial as the company establishes its production capabilities and expands its market presence.

Evolving Roles and Future Vision

In his new capacity as President, co-founder Apoorv Sinha will concentrate on long-term strategy and external relations. His focus will include investor engagement, technology development, and guiding the company's overarching vision. This allows him to steer the foundational aspects of the business while Kritzler drives operational execution.

Sinha described the transition as a natural evolution for the company as it moves from proving its technology to delivering projects globally. The Board of Directors echoed this sentiment, with Chair Steven Berkenfeld expressing confidence that the new structure will strengthen industrial scale-up. This evolution builds upon the strong foundation established by Sinha and his team since the company's inception.

With its first full-scale facility set to come online in 2026, this leadership change positions Carbon Upcycling for significant impact. Supported by leading investors and strategic partners, the company is poised to become a key player in decarbonizing the cement industry. The appointment of Kritzler signals a clear focus on execution and delivering sustainable building materials at scale.
