Buntar Aerospace, a Ukrainian defense technology company specializing in autonomous combat systems, has closed a US$16 million funding round. The investment was led by Freedom Fund and an international growth equity investor, with participation from Gardar, Iron Wolf, and Autonomy Capital. The new capital raises the company's total funding to US$30 million and will support accelerated product development, expanded manufacturing capacity, and talent recruitment.

Combat-Ready Technology Foundation

Founded in August 2023 by Ivan Kaunov and Bohdan Sas, Buntar Aerospace has built its commercial base around the Buntar-3 reconnaissance drone and Buntar Copilot, a knowledge-based artificial intelligence platform for drone warfare. The Buntar-3 platform is engineered to operate in severe electronic warfare conditions, while Buntar Copilot provides AI-driven guidance for drone operators. These systems are already deployed with front-line units across Ukraine, generating stable revenue and operational trust.

Capital to Scale Manufacturing and Talent

The new funding will be directed toward several strategic priorities. Buntar Aerospace plans to accelerate product development and expand manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The company will also recruit top engineering, management, and operations talent to support its expanding platform and production demands.

Investor Confidence and Strategic Expansion

The participation of Freedom Fund, Gardar, Iron Wolf, and Autonomy Capital reflects investor confidence in Buntar Aerospace's operational traction and product roadmap. These backers bring a combination of regional expertise and international growth support that can help the company scale beyond its current front-line deployments. The round also strengthens Buntar Aerospace's ability to respond to near-term defense needs while investing in longer-term dual-use opportunities.

Strategic Roadmap and International Ambitions

Buntar Aerospace will continue developing Buntar Copilot and enter new international markets with dual-use product lines beyond intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. The company aims to evolve into a multi-domain defense autonomy provider while also addressing rising civilian demand for autonomous technology. This expansion includes integrating proven teams and technologies into the Buntar platform to accelerate delivery of new capabilities.

Leadership Perspective on Mission-Driven Innovation

Bohdan Sas, co-founder of Buntar Aerospace, said every Buntar system is designed to fly, sense, and adapt autonomously so skilled personnel can focus on decisions. He noted that the company targets missions that depend most on highly trained operators, including reconnaissance, counter-drone defense, and precision strike assistance. Sas emphasized that this capability is what Ukraine needs today and what Europe must prepare for tomorrow.

Field-Driven Dual-Use Development

Sas also highlighted the dual-use potential of technologies refined in combat, noting that systems designed for defense have a wide range of civil applications. The company's direct work alongside soldiers enables continuous refinement based on actual combat feedback. This operational experience supports Buntar Aerospace's ambition to scale both defense and civilian product lines, particularly as demand for autonomous technology rises globally.

With US$16 million in fresh capital and total funding now reaching US$30 million, Buntar Aerospace is positioned to deepen its role in Ukraine's defense technology ecosystem while pursuing international expansion. The backing from Freedom Fund, Gardar, Iron Wolf, and Autonomy Capital signals investor confidence in autonomous systems with proven operational value. As the company scales manufacturing and advances its AI platform, it aims to shape the next generation of defense and dual-use autonomy.
