Singapore deep-tech startup Bioactivx has raised US$3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round to accelerate the development and commercialization of its synthetic wound-care technology. The round was co-led by Martin Krupp, Managing Director of Swiss family office ContInvest, and Cocoon Capital, alongside participation from new and existing investors. The financing brings Bioactivx’s total funding raised to US$4.9 million and will support its preparations for regulatory approval and commercial expansion.

Advancing Synthetic Wound Care

Bioactivx is a spin-off from Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research, or A*STAR, and SingHealth, focused on regenerative biomaterials for advanced wound treatment. Its lead product, Bioactiv Matrix, is a fully synthetic skin substitute designed to support tissue regeneration while reducing inflammation and avoiding the use of animal-derived materials. The company aims to address limitations associated with conventional wound-care products, including complex storage requirements, reliance on operating-room environments, and resource-intensive treatment procedures.

Bioactiv Matrix was developed as a bioinspired material platform that can be stored without a cold chain and is intended for use beyond sterile operating theaters. These characteristics could allow the technology to be deployed in settings ranging from hospitals to military environments, emergency response operations, remote clinics, and healthcare systems with limited infrastructure. Bioactivx believes the approach could broaden access to advanced wound treatment while offering a more scalable option for healthcare providers.

Funding to Support Manufacturing and Commercialization

The new capital will be used to expand Bioactivx’s manufacturing capabilities in Singapore and strengthen its commercial and regulatory functions as the company moves closer to market entry. Funding will also support post-market clinical trials for Bioactiv Matrix and further development of additional wound-care technologies based on the company’s synthetic biomaterials platform. Bioactivx is also building a pipeline targeting chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, and inflammatory skin conditions.

According to co-founder Dr Peili Teo, who is also a Principal Scientist at A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, the company set out to develop a skin substitute that combines clinical performance with practical deployment. She said Bioactivx is seeking to remove dependencies on animal-derived materials, cold-chain logistics, and sterile-only applications that can limit access to advanced treatments. The broader objective is to make regenerative wound-care technologies available to more patients across a wider range of healthcare environments.

Regulatory Progress and Clinical Development

Bioactiv Matrix has undergone preclinical and first-in-human studies in Singapore, where the company reported encouraging results including faster wound closure, reduced inflammation, and a lower risk of scarring compared with existing standards of care. Bioactivx has submitted a full data package to Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority as part of its regulatory approval process. The company is now preparing for commercialization while continuing to gather clinical evidence to support broader adoption.

Cocoon Capital Managing Partner Michael Blakey said Bioactivx has progressed from early-stage scientific development through clinical validation and regulatory submission since the investor first backed the company at seed stage. SingHealth and A*STAR also highlighted the company as an example of research being translated into commercially relevant healthcare technologies. The investment therefore represents another step in Bioactivx’s transition from research spin-off to a commercial medical technology company.

Expansion Plans

Bioactivx is targeting Singapore as one of the first markets for Bioactiv Matrix, with a potential launch planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 subject to regulatory and commercialization milestones. The company intends to pursue expansion into regional markets during 2027 as it scales manufacturing and establishes commercial partnerships. Its ability to operate without cold-chain infrastructure could support adoption in markets where conventional advanced wound-care products remain difficult or costly to deploy.

The US$3 million Pre-Series A round gives Bioactivx additional resources to move Bioactiv Matrix toward regulatory approval, manufacturing scale-up, and commercial launch. By combining fully synthetic biomaterials with simpler storage and application requirements, the company is positioning its technology as an alternative to existing wound-care approaches that can be difficult to use outside specialized hospitals. Its progress over the coming months will center on regulatory clearance in Singapore, clinical validation, and preparations for wider regional commercialization.
