Bharat Housing Network (BHN), a secured credit network and co-lending platform focused on affordable housing, has raised US$5 million in green bonds from Symbiotics. The issuance is part of a US$75 million green basket bond program structured by Symbiotics with British International Investment (BII). The funding will be deployed through BHN’s group NBFC, Singularity Creditworld, to finance green assets across India rather than traditional home loans.

Funding Structure and Strategic Partnership

The US$5 million green bond forms a component of the broader US$75 million green basket bond program arranged by Symbiotics in partnership with BII, the United Kingdom’s development finance institution and impact investor. The program is designed to drive the adoption of renewable energy solutions across Asia and Africa. BHN will receive the capital through a structured route that supports its group non-banking financial company, Singularity Creditworld, as the lending entity.

Deployment Priorities for Green Assets

The capital will be directed toward three priority areas: rooftop solar financing, electric mobility financing, and credit for clean-tech MSMEs. BHN said the funds arrive at a time when India’s energy transition is moving rapidly beyond metropolitan hubs into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The company will use its co-lending platform and secured lending capabilities to deploy the funds across high-impact green segments.

Leadership Perspective on India’s Energy Transition

Keyur Vinchhi, SVP of Strategy and Business Development at BHN, said, "This capital comes at a time when India’s energy transition is moving rapidly beyond metropolitan hubs." He added that BHN will use its established co-lending platform and secured lending capabilities to deploy the funds across high-impact green segments. The leadership views green bonds as a key instrument for bringing institutional capital to smaller sustainable lending opportunities.

Track Record and Market Impact

To date, BHN’s network has enabled nearly ₹20 billion of credit to more than 40,000 low- and middle-income borrowers. The platform has financed the installation of 7,162 KW of rooftop solar capacity and the purchase of more than 800 electric vehicles. BHN estimates that these financed assets have the potential to save around 101,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Company Background and Investor Support

BHN was founded by Lalit Menghani, Madhusudan Sharma, and Prasad Ajinkya, and it operates as part of the Homeville Group. The company provides technology and infrastructure for capital deployment across mortgages, clean energy, mobility, and gold loans. Its existing investor base includes NABVENTURES, 100Unicorns, Varanium, Riverwalk, and LC Nueva.

Future Green Bond Ambitions

BHN is targeting up to US$25 million in green bond issuances by the end of the next financial year. The proposed issuance is intended to expand green asset financing and strengthen the availability of capital for sustainable businesses and retail borrowers across India. This follows the company’s earlier Series A funding of ₹1.25 billion, approximately US$14.5 million, led by NABVENTURES.

Alignment with Climate Finance Goals

The transaction reflects growing investor interest in green bond structures that reach smaller non-banking lenders and retail borrowers. By financing rooftop solar and electric mobility, BHN supports emissions reduction and local economic activity in semi-urban and rural markets. The program’s backing from BII also signals confidence in India’s green finance ecosystem and in BHN’s operational model.

The US$5 million green bond issuance highlights BHN’s evolution from an affordable housing co-lending platform into a broader sustainable finance provider. By channeling capital into rooftop solar, electric mobility, and clean-tech MSME lending, BHN is addressing climate-related financing gaps in India’s underserved markets. With further green bond targets ahead, the company is positioned to deepen its role in the country’s clean energy transition.
