Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP), part of Fortive’s Infection Prevention group, has acquired a majority stake in Dutch medtech company UV Smart. The transaction brings UV Smart’s UV-C high-level disinfection technology into ASP’s clinical solutions portfolio, expanding the buyer’s offering for specialty-scope reprocessing. Neither company disclosed financial terms or the exact size of ASP’s stake.

Strategic Rationale

ASP said the acquisition will extend its ability to serve healthcare customers across Europe and North America with infection-prevention solutions. Chad Rohrer, president of ASP and group president of Fortive’s Infection Prevention Group, said the deal strengthens the company’s portfolio and is intended to accelerate global adoption of UV Smart’s products. UV Smart will join ASP’s clinical solutions portfolio, although the announcement did not detail an integration timetable or management changes.

The acquisition links ASP’s global distribution and infection-prevention operations with UV Smart’s focus on specialist disinfection technology. ASP says its products and services support thousands of medical facilities worldwide by simplifying the purchase and operation of infection-prevention systems. The transaction gives the company an additional route to address the operational demands surrounding the reprocessing of specialty equipment.

The companies did not provide a valuation for UV Smart or disclose further details about the transaction structure. They also did not identify changes to customer agreements, manufacturing arrangements or product branding. As a result, the immediate operational effects of the majority investment remain limited to the strategic objectives stated in the announcement.

UV-C Disinfection Technology

UV Smart develops ultraviolet-C, or UV-C, systems designed for high-level disinfection of specialty scopes and other medical equipment. Its flagship D60 device is used for transesophageal echocardiography, or TEE, probes, which are used in cardiac imaging procedures. The company said conventional cleaning and disinfection of those probes can take hours, while the D60 performs high-level disinfection with UV-C light in minutes.

The company’s portfolio also addresses equipment used in cardiology, gynecology and ear, nose and throat care. UV Smart says its systems are clinically validated and are intended to help providers shorten reprocessing time, streamline daily operations, lower costs and strengthen traceability. The company currently supplies hospitals and clinics in 35 countries.

Operational Relevance

The deal highlights continued interest in tools designed to combine infection-control standards with workflow efficiency in healthcare settings. Specialty devices must be reprocessed before reuse, and delays can affect equipment availability and clinical scheduling. ASP and UV Smart are positioning the D60 as a solution that can reduce this turnaround period while supporting high-level disinfection requirements.

Daan Hoek, co-founder of UV Smart, said the company’s customer relationships and specialist team align with ASP’s long-term infection-prevention growth strategy. His comments indicate that the deal is intended to build on UV Smart’s existing market presence rather than simply absorb a product line. However, the companies have not announced specific commercial targets, new markets or product-development plans resulting from the investment.

ASP’s majority investment in UV Smart expands its infection-prevention portfolio with UV-C high-level disinfection technology for specialty medical equipment. The move combines ASP’s international healthcare footprint with a Dutch medtech company whose systems are already deployed in multiple clinical categories and countries. Its longer-term significance will depend on the companies’ ability to extend adoption while preserving the product performance, validation and customer support that have shaped UV Smart’s market position.
