German robotics firm ARX Robotics and Ukrainian defence company Roboneers have announced a landmark joint venture named ARX Industries. This new entity is set to mass-produce the Rys Pro unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The partnership, backed by both the German and Ukrainian governments, aims to address the urgent need for advanced robotic systems on the battlefield.
A Strategic Partnership for European Defence
The agreement was formalized in Gdańsk, Poland, during the Ukraine Recovery Conference, marking a significant step in international defence cooperation. ARX Industries combines German industrial manufacturing prowess with Ukraine's battle-proven robotics expertise under the "Build with Ukraine" initiative. This collaboration is designed to deliver critical capabilities directly to the front lines where they are needed most.
Production will be strategically located across facilities in both Germany and Ukraine, creating a resilient and agile manufacturing network. This dual-country approach ensures industrial scale while maintaining close proximity to the operational theatre for rapid feedback. The industrial complex will be capable of quickly adapting to the evolving demands of modern warfare.
Scaling Production to Meet Urgent Demand
ARX Industries has set ambitious production goals to meet the significant demand for unmanned systems in Ukraine. The venture plans to manufacture several thousand Rys Pro units within its first year of operation. This output is projected to scale progressively, reaching tens of thousands of units annually in subsequent years.
The versatile Rys Pro UGVs will be deployed in a variety of mission-critical roles to enhance soldier safety and effectiveness. These tasks include casualty evacuation, frontline logistics for transporting supplies, and specialized modules for mining and demining. The platform can also be configured for direct combat support, showcasing its adaptability on the battlefield.
A New Model for Defence Manufacturing
A core principle of the joint venture is a unique feedback loop that directly connects the factory floor with the front line. Lessons learned from active deployment are immediately integrated into the next production cycle, ensuring continuous improvement. This agile development model sets the partnership apart from traditional defence manufacturing processes and accelerates innovation.
Leadership from both companies emphasized the venture's urgency and strategic importance in saving lives. Maximilian Wied of ARX Robotics highlighted the goal of delivering equipment faster to make a real difference on the ground. Anton Skrypnyk of Roboneers added that this partnership brings the battle-winning power of robotics to an industrial scale.
Bolstering Sovereign Capabilities
Beyond immediate needs, the joint venture is establishing a long-term production base for sovereign UGV capacity in Europe. ARX Industries will cover manufacturing, maintenance, and operational support, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for unmanned systems. This strengthens the continent's ability to design, produce, and sustain its own critical defence technologies.
The strategic importance of this cooperation is underscored by the explicit support from both the Ukrainian and German governments. This backing signifies a shared commitment to enhancing European defence sovereignty and resilience through collaborative innovation. The venture serves as a powerful example of how allied nations can work together to address modern security challenges.
The formation of ARX Industries represents a pivotal moment for European defence, moving beyond a simple supply contract. It establishes a new paradigm for agile, battlefield-informed manufacturing that directly supports Ukraine's defence efforts. This strategic alliance is poised to significantly enhance Ukraine's capabilities while simultaneously strengthening Europe's sovereign defence industrial base for the future.
