Arte Corporation, a Tokyo-based technology company, has begun offering the AI-powered footwear sizing service Perfitt in Japan from September 18, 2026. The SaaS platform combines foot measurement data with internal shoe dimension data to recommend the best size for each customer. Applications are now being accepted from shoe brands, e-commerce operators, retailers and event organizers in the domestic market.
Addressing Persistent Sizing Challenges
The announcement targets long-standing sizing problems in both online and physical footwear retail. Online shoppers cannot try on products and sizing varies across brands, which leads to uncertainty, frequent returns and extra logistics costs for businesses. Store staff also have limited time to assess foot characteristics, so recommendations often depend on individual experience and are difficult to keep consistent.
How the Perfitt Platform Works
Perfitt is not a standard foot scanning tool because it combines customer foot data with measured inner shoe dimensions and AI to recommend a size for a specific product. The platform stores more than 1.1 million foot records and 2.5 million size recommendation records, while its database covers 420 brands and 600,000 shoe models. AI analysis also incorporates materials, stiffness, structure, wear test data and public review analysis to improve fit predictions.
Dedicated Shoe Measurement Device
A proprietary device called Perfitt M1 measures the inside of shoes to capture dimensions that public size labels do not reveal. Even shoes marked with the same size can differ significantly between brands and models, as shown by ten 27cm models with internal lengths ranging from 27.365cm to 28.031cm. This enables recommendations based on actual product dimensions rather than official size tables alone.
Two Deployment Options
The service is available as Perfitt Size for e-commerce sites and Perfitt Onsite for physical stores and events. Perfitt Size embeds on product pages and lets customers photograph their feet with a smartphone, offering both a detailed measurement using A4 paper and a quick measurement with no paper. Perfitt Onsite uses a dedicated mat with a smartphone or tablet, and both options include a management dashboard that visualizes recommendation counts, measurement counts, regional data and conversion rates.
Early Results from International Deployments
Arte reports encouraging outcomes from existing Perfitt deployments in other markets. Mizuno EMEA recorded an 87 percent increase in online sales and a 15 percent reduction in return rates three months after implementation, while ABC Mart Korea saw its cart addition rate rise by 200 percent on average in 2024. These results suggest the platform can improve conversion and reduce the operational burden of returns.
FaW Tokyo Participation and Leadership Comment
Perfitt Inc., with support from the Korean government and Arte, will exhibit at the 30th Fashion World Tokyo from October 7 to 9, 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight. Visitors can experience foot measurement and size recommendation at booth A26-2 during the event. Arte Corporation said the platform addresses a long-standing industry challenge by linking foot data and shoe inner data, and invited attendees to test its accuracy.
Arte and Perfitt aim to make personalized shoe selection a normal part of purchasing in Japan. By offering data-driven guidance across e-commerce, stores and events, the platform helps reduce guesswork and returns for both customers and businesses. The upcoming FaW Tokyo exhibition will give Japanese companies an early chance to evaluate the technology, and Arte will support them from consultation through implementation and operation.
