Amperesand has secured an $80 million Series A round to accelerate the commercialization of its Medium Voltage Solid-State Transformer technology, a solution designed to relieve mounting power constraints across AI data centers and other high-demand sectors. The round was co-led by Walden Catalyst Ventures and Temasek, with strong participation from both new and existing backers. The company positions this investment as a decisive step toward deploying large-scale systems that will support the next wave of global AI infrastructure growth.


A Strategic Investment to Scale Power Innovation

The Series A round was oversubscribed and brought in new investors including Industry Ventures, Acclimate Ventures, and SG Growth Capital, alongside continued support from Xora Innovation, Material Impact, TDK Ventures, and Foothill Ventures. Amperesand plans to use the capital to deliver 30 megawatts of commercial systems in 2026, with a priority focus on hyperscale AI customers facing intense power density and reliability requirements. With demand accelerating, the company is expanding engineering and manufacturing operations across the United States and Singapore to support global deployment.

Addressing a Growing Power Infrastructure Crisis

The rapid expansion of AI workloads has pushed traditional power systems to their breaking point, creating lengthy delays for equipment and grid interconnections. Lead times for core electrical hardware, including transformers and switchgear, have stretched to more than a year, limiting the ability of data centers to scale on schedule. Amperesand argues that without modernized power delivery infrastructure, the pace of AI innovation could be slowed by grid bottlenecks and regulatory constraints.

The MV SST Platform as a New Power Foundation

Amperesand’s MV SST platform consolidates hardware, software, and controls into an integrated, compact package intended to simplify deployment and accelerate time to power. The company states that its approach cuts installation labor by half and enables power-up timelines up to ten times faster than legacy systems. The platform also reduces electrical footprint by more than 80 percent, offering hyperscalers and grid operators a flexible pathway for expanding capacity without extensive civil works.

Built for Global Scale and Security

A core element of Amperesand’s strategy is a secure and diversified supply chain that supports deployment in multiple regions. The system incorporates AI-driven software controls, advanced cybersecurity, and patented power electronics designed to maintain grid stability even as power densities rise. According to the company, this combination gives customers a reliable way to scale high-power environments both on and off the grid without compromising national or operational security.

Leadership Perspective on a Critical Market Shift

CEO and Co-Founder Brian Dow emphasized that modern AI data centers have become strategic assets for national competitiveness and require power infrastructure built for resilience and local control. He highlighted that the company’s platform offers regionally manufactured components, in-country data handling, and cyber-secure controls to meet emerging policy requirements. His view is that the MV SST architecture provides a universal medium-voltage power source capable of supporting defense, megawatt charging, and critical industrial applications.

Commercial Progress and Technical Foundation

Amperesand will deliver its first commercial units in early 2026 to the Port of Singapore for a mission-critical charging pilot with PSA International. Additional pilots scheduled for 2026 will support hyperscale AI operators seeking faster deployment of next-generation GPU clusters. This momentum builds on eight years of research conducted at Nanyang Technological University, which led to the spinout of Amperesand under Xora Innovation and the subsequent development of the company’s Generation 2 system, tested for full-power, overload, and bidirectional capabilities.

Expanding Footprint and Execution Capacity

In 2025, the company scaled operations across San Francisco and Reno to build engineering and manufacturing hubs that support large-volume production. Amperesand expects to surpass 100 employees globally by the end of 2025 as it prepares for its first large commercial deployments. Investors note that improvements in power density and cost have exceeded expectations, positioning the company for leadership in the SST category.


Amperesand’s $80 million Series A marks a major inflection point for the company and the broader AI infrastructure sector as energy constraints become one of the defining challenges of modern computing. With commercial pilots secured, manufacturing capacity growing, and customer demand climbing, the company is preparing for a pivotal 2026 rollout.
