Belgium-based legaltech startup Alice has raised $1.16 million in pre-seed funding to develop an AI-driven platform for legal teams. The investment round was led by NewSchool and Seeder Fund, with contributions from a group of Belgian angel investors. Alice aims to streamline legal casework while ensuring accuracy, traceability, and professional oversight.
Addressing Challenges in Legal AI
The adoption of AI in legal practice has grown rapidly, but concerns over reliability and accuracy persist. Courts in multiple jurisdictions have encountered legal submissions containing incorrect or fabricated references, often linked to unverified AI outputs. Belgium has seen judges intervene in cases, reopening proceedings or applying procedural safeguards, while similar actions have been reported internationally.
Alice’s Solution
Alice was developed to integrate AI into legal workflows without compromising professional control. The platform emphasizes verification, traceability, and human oversight, providing lawyers with a trustworthy tool for managing casework. Its design reflects the sequential nature of legal processes, ensuring that each stage informs the next for consistent and accurate outputs.
Founding Vision
Launched in June 2025 by practising lawyers Jeroen Villé and Armin Wintein, alongside CTO Joren Coulier, Alice is built around real-world legal workflows. The platform prioritizes usability, professional accountability, and regulatory alignment, addressing concerns unique to the legal sector. Multiple Belgian law firms are already using Alice, demonstrating early market interest in AI solutions tailored to legal standards.
Enhancing Legal Workflows
Alice supports the full spectrum of legal tasks, from document analysis and research to argument development and client communications. The platform consolidates these functions within a single environment, enabling lawyers to produce court-ready materials efficiently. By structuring work as a continuous, interconnected process, Alice reduces the risk of errors commonly associated with general-purpose AI tools.
Co-Founder Perspective
Jeroen Villé, CEO of Alice, explained that AI can only play a lasting role in legal practice if it is fully trusted by professionals. He emphasized that Alice helps legal teams work efficiently while retaining complete control over their cases. The platform is intended to prevent the dangers of unverified outputs while supporting consistent, high-quality legal work.
Growth Plans
With its new funding, Alice plans to accelerate the development of its core workflow technology. The company will expand its team, strengthen customer support, and extend its reach geographically. Initial expansion efforts will focus on Belgium, followed by the Netherlands and France, aiming to meet growing demand for reliable legal AI solutions.
Alice represents a new approach to AI in legal practice, balancing automation with professional accountability. Its platform offers lawyers a unified, trustworthy environment for managing complex casework efficiently. By combining innovation with rigorous verification, Alice is positioning itself as a leading legaltech solution in Europe.
