Aerospace startup Airbound has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh Drone Corporation to establish a vast drone delivery network in the Amaravati Capital Region. This memorandum of understanding outlines a plan to enable up to 10,000 drone flights daily. The initiative represents a significant leap in India's goal to modernize its logistics infrastructure with advanced aerial technology.


A Vision for Aerial Logistics

The collaboration will launch in Guntur before expanding to connect Amaravati, Vijayawada, and Guntur. Airbound will engage stakeholders across healthcare, e-commerce, and logistics to develop this integrated aerial system. The Andhra Pradesh Drone Corporation will provide support for ecosystem development and regulatory coordination.

Achieving the 10,000 daily flight target would position the project among the world's largest commercial drone delivery networks. This initiative serves as a major test case for the viability of unmanned aircraft in complementing conventional transport. The network aims to enhance connectivity for medical supplies, commercial goods, and emergency response.

Government and Industry Endorsement

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu lauded the project as an example of India's expanding capabilities in next-generation aviation. He emphasized that partnering with a homegrown company shows that cutting-edge technology can be developed and scaled within India. This will deliver tangible connectivity, employment, and economic growth.

Geetanjali Sharma, Managing Director of the APDC, stated the MoU lays the foundation for a new logistics architecture for the state. She expressed confidence that Airbound's technology and the government's focus on infrastructure will bring early benefits. The shared goal is to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global hub for logistics innovation.

Technological Innovation and Economic Impact

At the core of this initiative is Airbound's proprietary blended-wing-body aircraft, built from lightweight carbon fiber. The firm claims its 1.5 kg drone has a superior payload-to-weight ratio and can significantly reduce delivery costs. This efficiency is key to making aerial logistics a scalable and affordable alternative.

Naman Pushp, CEO of Airbound, explained the vision is to create a network where single packages move point-to-point with high efficiency. This model aims to decouple logistics from the movement of people, treating drone delivery as shared infrastructure. Success in the Amaravati region could provide a template for other cities.

Airbound brings considerable experience, having completed over 10,000 flights in India. This includes over 1,000 successful healthcare delivery missions with Narayana Health in Bengaluru. The new network is expected to attract investment and generate employment in the state's drone economy.

Regulatory Landscape and Future Outlook

This agreement aligns with India's strategy to encourage commercial drone adoption through policies like the Drone Rules, 2021. The Digital Sky platform further facilitates this by streamlining drone registration and operational permissions. This framework is designed to support innovation while maintaining high safety standards.

Industry participants await a wider framework for beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) operations. Implementing BVLOS rules is a critical step for enabling large-scale logistics networks to function effectively. This project also underscores the growing competition and commercial deployment within India's drone logistics sector.
