AIBORN Inc., the Tokyo-based developer of the medical record AI tool Katanashi, has secured an investment from Medical Data Vision Inc. and entered into a capital and business alliance with the healthcare data company. Announced on October 1, 2026, the agreement is intended to deepen cooperation between the two companies across product development, distribution to medical institutions, and post-implementation support. The partnership builds on an existing commercial relationship under which Medical Data Vision has acted as a sales agent for Katanashi since August 2025.

Strengthening an Existing Partnership

Medical Data Vision, commonly known as MDV, operates one of Japan’s largest healthcare databases and has been involved in introducing Katanashi to medical institutions for more than a year. Through the new capital and business alliance, the companies plan to move beyond sales cooperation and work more closely on improving the product based on the needs of healthcare professionals. The collaboration is also expected to strengthen support for hospitals and other medical institutions after they adopt the platform.

Reducing Administrative Work in Healthcare

AIBORN developed Katanashi to address the administrative burden faced by healthcare professionals who must document consultations, nursing activities, patient information exchanges, and internal conferences. Doctors and nurses frequently need to enter information manually while interacting with patients or complete records after consultations, reducing the time available for other clinical responsibilities. AIBORN designed the product around the idea of minimizing keyboard use and allowing medical staff to devote more attention to patients and colleagues.

How Katanashi Works

Katanashi uses artificial intelligence to transcribe conversations during medical consultations, conferences, and other healthcare interactions before generating draft records from the captured information. The platform can summarize conversations in SOAP format and other documentation structures commonly used in healthcare settings, helping clinicians prepare records more efficiently. Beyond physician notes, the technology can support nursing documentation, patient information sharing, and records created during meetings or multidisciplinary conferences.

Product Development Shaped by Clinicians

AIBORN said Katanashi has been developed with input from general practitioners and other healthcare professionals who have provided feedback on practical challenges encountered in clinical environments. The company has continued to refine the product around those needs, with the goal of creating a tool that fits naturally into existing healthcare workflows rather than adding another administrative layer. The name Katanashi itself reflects the company’s ambition to reduce the sound and frequency of keyboard typing during medical work.

Expanding Adoption Across Medical Institutions

The alliance with MDV is expected to give AIBORN greater access to medical institutions while providing a stronger structure for implementation and ongoing customer support. Feedback collected from healthcare providers using Katanashi will be incorporated into future product updates as the companies seek to improve usability and expand adoption. The arrangement also combines AIBORN’s focus on healthcare AI with MDV’s established relationships and data expertise in the Japanese medical sector.

Broader Role of AI in Clinical Documentation

AI-assisted medical documentation has become an increasingly important area of healthcare technology as providers look for ways to reduce paperwork without compromising the quality or accuracy of clinical records. Tools capable of transcribing consultations and creating structured draft notes can potentially reduce repetitive administrative work while allowing healthcare professionals to spend more time communicating with patients. AIBORN’s expanded partnership with MDV reflects this broader push to integrate AI into routine clinical workflows through tools designed for practical day-to-day use.

AIBORN’s investment agreement and capital alliance with Medical Data Vision marks a significant expansion of a partnership that began with the distribution of Katanashi in 2025. By combining AIBORN’s AI-based documentation technology with MDV’s healthcare network and market presence, the companies aim to strengthen product development, implementation, and support for medical institutions. Their collaboration is ultimately focused on reducing documentation burdens and increasing the time healthcare professionals can dedicate to patient care and collaboration.
