MOTHER.tech, a Brooklyn-based creative studio, has successfully raised $15 million in seed funding to launch its innovative AI application, Degen. Led by Google Ventures, the investment supports the app's mission to simplify content creation and challenge the current creator economy. Degen offers a one-tap solution for generating high-quality media, aiming to restore a sense of play to digital expression.

Reimagining AI-Powered Creativity

Degen distinguishes itself by replacing complex prompt engineering with modular creative tools called “gens.” These tools are designed by artists who encode their unique visual styles into a simple, one-tap interface. Users select a gen, add their own photos or text, and instantly produce professional-grade images, videos, and memes.

The platform's technology utilizes a multi-model AI render pipeline to power this seamless experience. New generators are released daily, reflecting emerging internet subcultures and aesthetics in near real time. This approach ensures content remains culturally relevant and avoids the generic look often associated with AI tools.

A New Model for the Creator Economy

The app introduces a usage-based economic model designed to directly compensate artists for their creative contributions. Every time a user utilizes a specific generator, its original creator earns a share of the revenue. This system decouples artist income from traditional metrics like follower counts, rewarding quality and utility instead.

Degen operates on a token-based system where users purchase or earn tokens through referrals to generate content. This model provides a clear revenue stream while supporting the platform's unique creator compensation structure. The creator program is currently in a pilot phase and will open to everyone following the public launch.

Shifting Away from Algorithmic Feeds

In a departure from modern social media, Degen is built without algorithmic feeds or pressure to perform for an audience. Content is private by default and organized into taste-based channels for sharing with like-minded individuals. This design encourages creative experimentation rather than optimizing content for engagement and virality.

Co-founder Raissa Chagas stated the team wanted to recreate the early internet's feeling as a creative playground. The founders, who have experience inside major technology platforms, aim to build an environment that empowers users. This philosophy extends to data privacy, allowing users to control their information completely.

Strategic Vision and Future Plans

Founded in 2023, MOTHER.tech targets internet users disenchanted with current social apps. The company is positioned within the $100 billion global creator economy, appealing to creators who want powerful AI tools without a steep learning curve. Investors were drawn to the founding team's insider knowledge and their vision for empowering consumer technology.

The $15 million in capital will be instrumental in scaling the Degen platform and expanding its creator program. The company plans to grow its artist community and increase the daily release of new generators. Degen is currently available on iOS and Android via invite, with wider public access anticipated soon.

MOTHER.tech's Degen enters the market as a well-funded and thoughtfully designed alternative to the dominant social media landscape. By prioritizing creative freedom, direct artist compensation, and user privacy, the app challenges the attention-capture model. With its experienced team and strong investor backing, Degen is positioned to influence the future of digital creation.
