AI Connectivity Startup Lumilens Raises Over $700 Million at $5.5 Billion Valuation

The company is already shipping its optical interconnects under a multi-billion-dollar agreement.

Lumilens has emerged from stealth with more than $900 million in total funding as the company targets one of the increasingly important infrastructure challenges facing artificial intelligence data centers. The San Jose-based startup said its latest financing exceeded $700 million and valued the business at $5.51 billion, providing substantial capital to expand its optical connectivity technology and manufacturing operations. The announcement comes as hyperscalers build increasingly large AI computing clusters that require faster and more energy-efficient connections between thousands of processors.


Major Investors Back Lumilens

The latest financing was co-led by Atreides Management, Bain Capital Ventures, Meritech, Seligman Ventures, and Spark Capital, alongside participation from Addition, Alkeon, HarbourVest, JPMorgan Private Capital, Mayfield, MVP Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Peak XV, Redpoint Ventures, and Seifdune. Lumilens plans to use the funding to expand its capabilities across silicon development, optical systems, software, process engineering, and high-volume manufacturing. The investment gives the company significant resources to scale commercialization as demand for advanced networking infrastructure rises alongside global spending on AI computing capacity.

Tackling AI's Connectivity Bottleneck

Founded in early 2024, Lumilens is developing optical interconnect technologies designed to address the networking limitations that emerge as AI clusters expand from hundreds to thousands of graphics processing units. Although access to high-performance processors remains critical, connecting those processors efficiently is becoming another major constraint because large AI models require enormous volumes of data to move rapidly between computing components. Lumilens aims to replace or supplement traditional electrical connections with optical technology capable of delivering higher bandwidth over greater distances while reducing energy consumption.

Optical Technology for Large AI Systems

The company's product portfolio covers both scale-up and scale-out networking within AI data centers, including near-package and co-packaged optical solutions designed to move optical input and output closer to GPUs. Its scale-out products include 800G and 1.6T pluggable transceivers, with additional higher-speed technologies under development as networking requirements continue to increase. Lumilens has built these products around its LumiCore technology platform, which integrates silicon photonics, mixed-signal integrated circuits, electrical-optical interposers, optical systems, automated assembly processes, and manufacturing technologies within a unified architecture.

Early Hyperscaler Deployment

Lumilens said its first scale-out product has already completed qualification and entered production deployment within AI data centers operated by a major hyperscale customer, approximately two years after the company's founding. The deployment is connected to what Lumilens described as a multi-billion-dollar customer agreement, although the company has not publicly disclosed the identity of the hyperscaler involved. This early commercial adoption provides validation for the company's technology and manufacturing strategy as data center operators increasingly seek optical solutions capable of supporting larger clusters and minimizing connectivity constraints.


Lumilens is entering the AI infrastructure market with significant financial backing, a $5.51 billion valuation, and an early commercial deployment that positions it among companies seeking to solve the connectivity challenges created by rapidly expanding AI systems. Its strategy combines advanced optical technologies with manufacturing capabilities designed to deliver the bandwidth, efficiency, and scalability required as data centers connect growing numbers of GPUs and other processors. With more than $900 million raised, the company now has substantial resources to increase production, expand its technology portfolio, and pursue a larger share of the growing AI data center connectivity market.
