Africa’s health technology sector is earning global recognition as three standout companies, RecoMed, Remedial Health, and Reliance Health, secured places in TIME and Statista’s ranking of the World’s Top HealthTech Companies of 2025. The recognition highlights Africa’s growing role in advancing digital solutions that make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and efficient. Each of these startups has leveraged technology to solve systemic challenges, positioning themselves as key players in the continent’s evolving health ecosystem.

RecoMed: Redefining Patient Access in South Africa

Founded in 2013 in Cape Town by Sheraan Amod, RecoMed has grown into South Africa’s largest online healthcare booking platform. Connecting patients with over 3,000 practitioners and enabling more than 100,000 bookings monthly, the service makes healthcare access seamless and reliable. By prioritizing transparency and convenience, RecoMed reduces inefficiencies in patient care and sets a benchmark for digital health solutions in emerging markets.

Remedial Health: Tackling the Medicine Supply Chain in Africa

Established in 2021 by Samuel Okwuada and Victor Benjamin, Remedial Health was built to fix Africa’s broken pharmaceutical distribution chain. The Nigeria-based company offers an integrated digital platform that combines procurement, inventory management, business intelligence, and financing for pharmacies and providers. This approach not only ensures access to essential medicines but also strengthens small businesses, making healthcare delivery more resilient across communities.

Reliance Health: Integrating Care and Insurance in Nigeria

Reliance Health, founded in 2016 by Dr. Femi Kuti along with Ope Olumekun and Matthew Mayaki, has become a leader in accessible and affordable healthcare in Nigeria. Originally launched as Kangpe, a telemedicine platform, it has since expanded to provide health insurance, teleconsultations, and partnerships with clinics while serving more than 200,000 individuals and 4,000 businesses. Supported by investors like General Atlantic and Y Combinator, Reliance Health continues to scale its model across Nigeria, Egypt, and other emerging markets.

The inclusion of RecoMed, Remedial Health, and Reliance Health in the World’s Top HealthTech Companies of 2025 underscores the depth of innovation emerging from Africa. Each company is addressing critical barriers in healthcare access, from booking and medicine distribution to integrated insurance and telemedicine. Their recognition reflects not just local impact but also their potential to shape global healthtech models in the years ahead.
