Tether, the largest company in the digital asset industry, has led a Pre-Seed investment round in Peso, a Bolivian fintech company that provides payments, savings, and investment services across Latin America. The capital will support the expansion of fast, low-cost, stablecoin-powered payments and accelerate the everyday use of USD₮ in retail, e-commerce, food delivery, ride-hailing, and banking. Announced on October 21, 2026, the move signals growing momentum for blockchain-based financial infrastructure in the region.

A Practical Use Case in Bolivia

Peso provides a global USD₮ account that allows users to save, spend, invest, and send money across borders from a single application. The company has integrated USD₮ payments into digital services through Yango, a platform operating in Bolivia where customers can now order food and pay in USD₮ directly in the app. Peso also offers point-of-sale acceptance and virtual accounts in each user's name, connecting USD₮ to Bolivia's banking system through QR and ACH rails.

Regional Expansion and Product Development

The new funding will support Peso's expansion of local on- and off-ramps across Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina. These ramps are designed to deepen USD₮'s role as a settlement layer that connects local currencies throughout the region. The investment will also accelerate Peso's product roadmap, including its merchant-focused point-of-sale network and virtual account infrastructure.

Tether's Strategic Alignment

The investment reflects Tether's broader mission to bridge traditional finance and digital assets by supporting platforms that solve real-world financial challenges. Tether aims to advance the global use of stablecoins by making them more practical and accessible for everyday transactions. By backing Peso, the company is helping to establish a more stable, liquid, and blockchain-powered payment framework in Latin America.

Executive Perspectives

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said that Peso is building everyday spending infrastructure that turns USD₮ from a savings tool into a payments channel people can rely on daily. He added that the collaboration supports Tether's goal of promoting financial inclusion and delivering faster, easier, and more interoperable financial services. Ardoino also expressed confidence that supporting Peso's regional growth could create a new standard for stablecoin-powered solutions.

Alejandro Terán, CEO and Co-Founder of Peso, noted that Latin Americans already use USD₮, but the missing piece was frictionless infrastructure for daily spending. He said the investment will help the company make it possible for anyone in the region to open an account in minutes and use USD₮ for QR payments and cross-border transfers. Terán added that Tether's choice of a Bolivian startup recognizes the talent and execution capacity present in the country.

Market Context

Latin America has emerged as a significant market for stablecoin adoption, driven by currency volatility and demand for efficient cross-border payments. Peso's expansion into Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina places it at the center of this trend. The startup's focus on local on- and off-ramps may help reduce friction for users moving between stablecoins and fiat currencies.

By combining Tether's global scale with Peso's local payments infrastructure, the partnership aims to make stablecoin transactions a practical option for consumers and merchants. The initiative may strengthen financial inclusion in markets where traditional banking access remains uneven. If successful, the model could inspire similar stablecoin-based payment ecosystems across Latin America and beyond.
