RecargaPay, a Brazilian financial platform, announced on October 15 that Xavier Ibañez will become its Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Diego Escobar after an 11-year tenure. The appointment represents a strategic move to strengthen investor relations and broaden access to capital markets. Ibañez joins from J.P. Morgan, where he spent 18 years in New York and most recently led fintech coverage for Latin America.
A Career Built on Fintech Coverage
For nearly two decades at J.P. Morgan, Ibañez worked closely with digital banks, fintechs, and financial technology companies across Latin America. During his final five years at the bank, he led coverage of technology and fintech for the region, supporting transactions and expansion opportunities in Brazil, Mexico, and other markets. RecargaPay said his background will be central to advancing possible capital raises and deepening relationships with institutional investors.
Growth Metrics and Revenue Ambitions
RecargaPay expanded its customer base by 50% over the past year, surpassing 15 million clients in Brazil. The platform processed R$33 billion in transaction volume in 2025 and projects revenue of R$2 billion by the end of 2026. Its product portfolio now includes credit cards, Tap to Pay payments, CDB products, and lending, reflecting a broader push beyond its origins in mobile phone recharges.
Regulatory Foundation and Credit Expansion
In 2024, RecargaPay secured a Sociedade de Crédito, Financiamento e Investimento license from the Central Bank of Brazil, enabling it to operate as a regulated finance company. This authorization supports a rapid expansion of credit operations, with the company originating more than 1 million loan contracts per month. RecargaPay also holds an Instituição de Pagamento license, giving it a dual regulatory structure similar to some of Brazil's largest digital banks.
Strategic Timing and Market Position
The leadership change arrives at a moment when RecargaPay is advancing further into credit and preparing for closer engagement with global investors. The company reports average annual growth of around 30% and has more than doubled its portfolio of solutions in recent years. Founded in 2010 in Buenos Aires, the company now focuses on Brazil and defines itself as a Brazilian financial platform.
Artificial Intelligence and Operational Efficiency
Artificial intelligence is embedded across RecargaPay's credit operations, fraud prevention, risk analysis, and customer experience functions. Ibañez said the structural use of AI has already produced clear results, with the company approaching US$1 million in revenue per employee. He described the technology as a catalyst that multiplies team capacity, improves productivity, and creates a durable competitive advantage.
Executive Perspectives on the Transition
Rodrigo Teijeiro, founder and CEO of RecargaPay, said Ibañez is the right executive to lead the next phase of growth, including potential capital raises and access to capital markets. Ibañez said he had observed the company for years and was persuaded by its execution capability, talent density, and sustained product innovation. He also credited outgoing CFO Diego Escobar, who led funding rounds including a Series C of US$80 million, with building a financially sustainable and well governed operation.
RecargaPay's appointment of Xavier Ibañez as CFO marks a shift toward capital markets readiness and more disciplined expansion. With a regulated credit business, a large and growing customer base, and an established culture of technology adoption, the company is positioning itself for its next stage of scale. The transition underscores its ambition to remain one of Brazil's leading independent fintech platforms.
