Egypt's fintech sector has just produced one of the most heavily oversubscribed initial public offerings in recent Egyptian Exchange history. MNT-Halan closed its subscription period with combined retail and institutional demand of approximately EGP 125.9 billion, or about US$2.4 billion, which represented roughly 16 times the EGP 7.84 billion offering. The result signals a powerful revival of investor appetite for large listings in Cairo.
Retail and Institutional Demand Surge
Retail investors placed orders for nearly 2.093 billion shares on the sixth and final subscription day, according to preliminary data from brokerage app Thndr. That translated to coverage of 43.6 times the 48 million shares allocated to the retail tranche, with demand worth around EGP 51.3 billion. Institutional investors had already closed their private placement 11.2 times oversubscribed, contributing roughly EGP 74.6 billion in orders.
Allocation and Refund Mechanics
Orders will now be allocated on a pro rata basis, with no ballot and no guaranteed minimum allocation for retail investors who submitted subscriptions during the six-day window. Refunds for the unfilled portions of those orders will be returned ahead of the stock's trading debut, according to the transaction structure. The final retail coverage of 43.6 times implies a proportional allocation ratio of approximately 2.29% of the shares requested.
Offering Structure and Pricing
The IPO consists entirely of a secondary sale of 320 million existing shares, representing a 20% stake in MNT-Halan. The shares were priced at EGP 24.50 each, giving the company an implied valuation of approximately EGP 39.2 billion. The retail tranche accounts for 15% of the total offering and 3% of the company's share capital.
Cornerstone Investors and International Reach
Institutional demand for the private placement was notably global, with more than 300 funds from over 10 countries participating in the order book. Investors came from several GCC states, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and South Africa, even as geopolitical tensions affected neighboring markets. Cornerstone commitments came from Commercial International Bank, which pledged up to EGP 2 billion, and London-based Redwheel, which committed approximately US$20 million.
Proceeds and Stabilization Arrangements
Because the transaction is a secondary sale by parent company MNT Investments B.V., none of the IPO proceeds will flow directly to MNT-Halan. The parent will nevertheless inject up to EGP 4 billion back into the business through a closed capital increase at the offer price. After the debut, a stabilization fund backed by EGP 1.18 billion will hold a buy order at EGP 24.50 per share for the first 30 days of trading.
Market Performance and Listing Pipeline
MNT-Halan's IPO is the largest on the Egyptian Exchange in US dollar terms since e-Finance in 2021 and is the biggest order book the market has seen in years. The EGX30 index has gained more than 22% so far in 2026, following a roughly 40% advance in 2025, outperforming most regional benchmarks. The listing is expected to set the tone for upcoming offerings from Banque du Caire, Misr Life Insurance, and Egypt Education Platform.
Analyst Perspectives
Tycoon Securities analyst Sameh Gharib said the market is now large enough to absorb bigger IPOs, although some liquidity may rotate out of existing stocks into new listings. He noted that institutional investors are likely to return for Banque du Caire after setting aside funds for MNT-Halan. Retail demand, by contrast, may partly leave the market once subscriptions close, with only a portion of that capital expected to remain active in secondary trading.
The blockbuster MNT-Halan subscription demonstrates renewed confidence in Egypt's equity capital markets and the appeal of scaled fintech platforms. With strong global institutional participation and record-breaking retail demand, the company's October 20 debut is set to be closely watched by issuers and investors alike. The outcome will likely influence the pace and success of the broader IPO pipeline expected over the next several months.
