Figma has announced product updates at Config India in Bengaluru, aiming to bring design, code, and AI agents together on a single collaborative platform. The updates include code layers, Figma Specs, centralized design system management, deeper Payload integration, and an expanded Model Context Protocol ecosystem with 20 new partners. The announcement follows the general availability of the Figma agent and supports teams building from idea to ship in a visual-first environment.

Code Layers Bring Coded Prototypes to the Canvas

Code layers are rolling out in open beta, allowing teams to build, explore, edit, and compare code-backed prototypes directly on the Figma Design canvas. Users can create code layers by prompting the Figma agent, importing work from GitHub, or connecting coding agents through MCP. Existing Figma designs can also be converted into interactive prototypes to evaluate functionality, accessibility, and design consistency before development progresses.

Specs Adds Native Markdown Documentation

Figma Specs is a native Markdown editor that enables teams to document product requirements, implementation details, and design intent in a shared workspace. Specs can be standalone files or live alongside work on the canvas, referencing canvas content or embedding FigJam diagrams, code layers, and designs. The tool gives AI agents clearer instructions while helping designers, developers, and product managers align on what needs to be built.

Design System Management Centralized

Figma is introducing a centralized space for managing design systems, bringing design libraries, code libraries, and guidelines together. Guidelines are in open beta, while code sources start in closed beta on paid plans, helping AI agents follow established patterns and build better components. A system map tracks changes and dependencies, and system check scans identify gaps such as missing descriptions and interactive states.

Payload Integration Connects Content and Applications

Figma is deepening its integration with Payload, an open source backend framework and content management system that joined the company last year. Payload downloads have grown sixfold over the past 12 months, and teams can use Figma Make to build applications and connect them to Payload. This lets designers work with real content, marketers manage it through an admin panel, and developers customize applications with open source tools.

Agent and MCP Updates Improve AI Workflows

Figma also updated its MCP server to power more AI workflows across code and design, letting agents generate code layers and work with specs from existing AI tools. Users can create visual assets and run published Weave workflows, while improved guidance and server performance reduce errors and token usage. The Figma agent, now generally available, automates repetitive tasks across prototypes and design system components.

Expanded MCP Ecosystem Connects More Tools

Figma is launching 20 new MCP partner integrations, including OpenCode, Dia, Junie by JetBrains, Meta Muse, Grok Bot, and Sarvam AI. These connections let teams give coding agents design system context, bring web UI into Figma as editable layers, and send coded prototypes back for review. The expansion helps teams integrate preferred AI tools and coding agents into existing design workflows.

India Emerges as a Key Market

The announcements were made at Config India, Figma's flagship conference for product builders at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. More than 30,000 people registered to attend in person and virtually. India is Figma's second-largest active user market, with more than 40% of BSE 100 companies using the platform as of Q2 2026, including Airtel, Myntra, Swiggy, TCS, and Zomato.

The updates reinforce Figma's ambition to become a full-stack creative canvas where teams and agents can build together from idea to ship. As AI accelerates development, Figma is addressing the need for visible thinking, shared context, and stronger design system governance. The new features will roll out over the coming weeks as Figma continues to expand its global partner ecosystem.
