Zeit AI, a Munich-based startup founded by Palantir alumni, has announced a 5 million funding round to accelerate its autonomous data engineering platform. The company is targeting mid-sized European businesses that often rely on spreadsheets and manual processes when their ERP and FP&A systems fall short. With its product ZeitMind, Zeit AI aims to turn fragmented business data into analytics-ready applications without requiring additional internal data engineering staff.

Addressing a Persistent Mid-Market Gap

Mid-sized companies typically own rich operational data but lack the specialised engineering talent needed to use it effectively. Many teams resort to Excel workarounds that consume significant time each month and never fully disappear. Zeit AI positions ZeitMind as the autonomous data engineer that solves this problem by connecting business systems, cleaning data, and building applications based on specific requirements.

How ZeitMind Works

ZeitMind connects ERP, CRM, and more than 600 other source systems into a unified data foundation. An AI agent then cleans and structures the data before building analytics-ready applications tailored to a company's needs. The platform is designed to make results traceable to individual transactions and operates exclusively in German data centres, supporting sovereignty and data protection.

Investor Backing and Strategic Support

The 5 million round attracted institutional and angel investors including Y Combinator, the University of Oxford's Seed Fund, the Sequoia Capital Scout Fund, ACE Ventures, and Hasso Plattner VC. Angels such as former German Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, World Cup winner Mario Götze, Meta board member Charlie Songhurst, and Helsing CTO Robert Fink also participated. Hasso Plattner VC partner Jens Schmidt-Sceery said Zeit AI is making sovereign infrastructure the default rather than the compromise.

Founders with Enterprise Data Experience

Zeit AI was founded in 2024 by Palantir alumni Leopold von Waldthausen and Marvin Bornstein. After completing Y Combinator in San Francisco, the founders returned to Munich and built a team that includes engineering managers and senior consultants from Palantir, BCG, and McKinsey. This concentration of enterprise data experience underpins the company's focus on practical, traceable analytics for mid-sized firms.

Early Traction and Customer Adoption

Zeit AI has already reached more than $1 million in annual recurring revenue in its first year out of Y Combinator, according to its founders. The company's customers include technology group Kolbenschmidt, agricultural machinery manufacturer Horsch, agricultural trading group Allgaier Agrarhandel, logistics company Wahl & Co, consultancy Stern Stewart & Co, and aviation company Jetfly Aviation. This early traction suggests growing demand among mid-market firms for practical data engineering automation.

Planned Growth and European Expansion

The new capital will be used to reach more businesses and hire engineers who deploy the agent across Europe. Zeit AI plans to expand its team in Munich and open an office in London. Co-founder and CEO Leopold von Waldthausen said the company could run profitably but is now supercharging the playbook built over the past two years.

Zeit AI's funding round highlights a broader push to give European mid-market companies access to autonomous data engineering without heavy internal technical investment. By combining strong investor backing with early commercial traction, the startup is positioned to expand its footprint in a segment often underserved by traditional analytics vendors. Its commitment to European data processing and transaction-level traceability may prove central as it works to make ZeitMind a default tool for serious business decisions.
