Xona, a commercial navigation company building low Earth orbit infrastructure, has raised US$250 million in Series D equity funding. The round was led by Steve Jurvetson's Future Ventures and included participation from new and existing investors. The financing values Xona at US$2.45 billion and brings its total capital raised since 2019 to more than US$570 million.

Addressing GPS Vulnerabilities

Global positioning infrastructure has underpinned the modern economy for decades, supporting critical communications, transportation, and financial systems. Billions of connected devices and increasingly autonomous machines now depend on signals that are vulnerable to jamming, spoofing, and disruption. Modernizing traditional government-operated navigation systems remains costly and complex, making it difficult to keep pace with emerging demands.

Pulsar Network Advantages

Xona's Pulsar network is designed to deliver centimeter-level precision and signals up to 100 times more powerful than GPS. The company reports demonstrated resistance to jamming and the ability to reach receivers indoors. This commercial upgrade to GPS broadcasts from purpose-built satellites in low Earth orbit and offers built-in protection against spoofing.

From Demonstration to Deployment

Over the past year, Xona has advanced from a first-of-its-kind technology demonstration to the initial deployment of its commercial navigation network. The company secured the first and only Federal Communications Commission authorization for a private navigation constellation operating alongside government GNSS systems. Xona also began scaling in-house satellite production at its Burlingame, California headquarters.

October Launch and Service Timeline

In October, Xona completed its largest launch to date by deploying six new Pulsar satellites. Four of these spacecraft will support an initial beta service in multiple countries beginning in early 2027. The remaining two satellites, designed and manufactured entirely in-house, will validate the architecture for scaling the full constellation.

Investor Perspective

Steve Jurvetson, co-founder of Future Ventures, described the pace of innovation at Xona as remarkable. He noted that the company advanced from a validation mission to deploying the foundation of an entirely new global navigation network in just over a year. Jurvetson has invested in only three space companies throughout his career: SpaceX, Planet, and Xona.

Executive Perspective

Brian Manning, Co-founder and CEO of Xona, said the last several years were about proving that a commercial company could build a fundamentally better navigation system. He added that the company is now putting that system into operation. Manning emphasized that satellites in orbit, customer firmware integration, and manufacturing capacity give Xona the resources to deliver a service the world increasingly needs.

Use of Proceeds and Commercial Readiness

The new capital will support satellite manufacturing, constellation deployment, and the delivery of Xona's initial commercial service. The company has already integrated Pulsar firmware with customer devices and expanded in-house production capacity at its California facility. These operational capabilities, combined with the recent launch, give Xona a foundation to scale the full Pulsar network.

With this Series D round, Xona is positioned to deliver a commercial navigation service that addresses growing vulnerabilities in GPS-dependent systems. The company is moving from technology validation toward initial operational capability with satellites in orbit and early service planned for 2027. The investment underscores confidence in commercial alternatives to government-operated navigation infrastructure and the expanding market for resilient positioning technology.
