Wilbe has launched its first flexible life sciences hub in London's White City, addressing a critical shortage of lab space for startups. This expansion adds essential physical infrastructure to its established training and investment platform. The new facility is designed to accelerate scientific innovation by removing a key operational barrier for scientist-founders.

Solving a Key Growth Obstacle

Wilbe is tackling a persistent hurdle where science-based startups struggle to find suitable laboratory facilities after securing initial funding. This common delay stifles crucial early-stage momentum, a problem Wilbe has consistently observed across its portfolio. The new hub directly confronts this industry-wide challenge by providing an immediate, practical solution for growing companies.

A Purpose-Built Environment for Scientists

Located in The WestWorks building at White City Place, the new 20,000 sq ft facility is purpose-built to support scientific advancement. Designed by and for scientist founders, it can accommodate 10 to 15 companies and up to 80 personnel. The space integrates fully fitted wet labs with private offices and modern collaborative meeting areas.

Ready-to-Use Infrastructure

A key feature is the hub's "plug-and-play" model, with laboratories fully operational from day one for immediate experimental work. This ready-to-use infrastructure eliminates lengthy procurement and construction delays for companies from pre-seed to Series B stages. The flexible approach empowers scientific teams to move with the speed and agility that venture-backing demands.

Tapping into a Thriving Innovation Ecosystem

The facility's strategic location within the White City Innovation District is a significant advantage for its tenants. This area is a rapidly expanding hub for scientific research, technology, and healthcare advancement. Wilbe’s presence here embeds its member companies within a dynamic and supportive scientific community from their inception.

Fostering Collaboration and Synergy

Proximity to Imperial College London, NHS trusts, and an established biotech cluster provides unparalleled access to collaborators, talent, and early customers. This environment fosters a unique synergy where scientific ideas can compound faster through daily interaction and shared knowledge. The hub acts as a catalyst for community-driven innovation rather than just providing physical space.

A Blueprint for Global Expansion

The White City launch serves as the cornerstone of Wilbe's broader international growth strategy. The company is leveraging its extensive experience in designing and operating labs to build a global network of support for entrepreneurs. This expansion reflects a deep commitment to fostering scientific innovation on a worldwide scale and replicating this successful model.

Wilbe plans to establish similar hubs in key international innovation centers, including Zurich, Berlin, San Francisco, and Austin. A second London site is also anticipated, with a specialized focus on the field of robotics. This clear roadmap demonstrates a long-term vision for supporting a diverse range of deep-tech sectors globally.

By integrating physical labs with its proven training and investment programs, Wilbe now offers a complete end-to-end platform for scientist-entrepreneurs. This holistic approach is poised to strengthen the UK's life sciences sector by empowering founders to build impactful companies. It enables them to translate groundbreaking research into commercial reality with greater speed and efficiency.
