Whop, a technology company focused on delivering sustainable income, announced on October 21, 2026 that it has raised US$200 million in a Series D round at a US$5.1 billion valuation. The round was led by Sequoia and Shopify Ventures. The company said the fresh capital will accelerate global expansion and research and development efforts aimed at making payment and advertising markets more efficient.

Backing from Major Investors

The Series D marks Whop's second fundraise this year. In February 2026, the company received a US$200 million strategic investment from Tether at a US$1.6 billion valuation, and the latest round brings its total announced funding for the year to US$400 million. Sequoia and Shopify Ventures are backing the company as it aims to expand its global footprint and improve payment and advertising infrastructure.

Responding to a Changing Labor Market

Whop is positioning itself as a response to a labor market being reshaped by artificial intelligence. The company cites Forbes reporting that entry level job opportunities are at an all time low. Its platform is designed to help individuals own their economic futures at a time when traditional career paths are being questioned.

Platform Scale and Customer Focus

Whop's core customers are business operators, from product leaders at high growth startups to 16 year old first time entrepreneurs. The company provides a gamified interface and an extensive API for distribution, business creation, and money. Roughly 25,000 business operators generate US$550 million on Whop each month, while more than 50,000 other people earn income by supporting those businesses.

Investor Commentary

Doug Leone, Partner at Sequoia Capital, said the company is doing about US$500 million in revenue and performing well. He added that Whop is helping humanity create businesses for people who cannot find a job. His comments highlight the social and economic role investors see the platform playing in the digital economy today.

Leadership Perspective

Steven Schwartz, Co-founder and CEO of Whop, said the company takes inspiration from the traditional economy and focuses on businesses as its primary customer. He explained that businesses are the main conduit by which people earn money and create value. This philosophy guides Whop's product development and operator support on the platform.

Recent Product Launches

Whop has recently introduced several products to lower barriers for new operators and automate business management. Business Blueprints, launched six weeks ago, has already enabled more than 21,000 businesses to be created in a few clicks. The Whop CLI, released in July, makes the API compatible with AI agents and, together with MCP connectors, handles over 350,000 calls per day from more than 14,700 monthly active users.

Economic Intelligence and Revenue Model

The company also launched Economic Intelligence, a decision engine trained on millions of transactions that recommends the highest return on investment next move for each business. Businesses that choose to use Economic Intelligence pay an additional percentage of revenue earned from the system. This product reflects Whop's focus on performance driven tools for operators.

Company Growth and Hiring

Whop is headquartered in Palo Alto, California with offices in New York, and it is hiring across engineering, product, sales, and operations. The company facilitates over US$7 billion in on-platform transactions to people in 185 countries. Its vision is to create the largest internet market where everyone can pursue a more lucrative and fulfilling livelihood.

Whop's latest funding round positions the company to deepen its investments in global expansion and product research and development. The platform is scaling as a marketplace for niche digital businesses while providing income opportunities to tens of thousands of people. With new tools like Business Blueprints, Whop CLI, and Economic Intelligence, Whop is advancing its goal of making sustainable income more accessible worldwide.
