Saudi Arabian fintech Vrtx has raised US$3.6 million in a Pre-Seed funding round to accelerate the development of embedded finance infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East and North Africa. The Riyadh-based company plans to help businesses embed wallets, payouts, and card issuing directly into their own products. The round was backed by SC Ventures by Standard Chartered, Sadu Capital, BYLD, Suhail Ventures, F6 Ventures, Taz Investment, and Palm Ventures.

The Embedded Finance Challenge

Vrtx was founded by Mishal Bin Slimah and Omar Shaaban, who previously worked together at Tweeq, one of Saudi Arabia's early digital financial platforms that was later acquired by Tabby. Their experience building financial products firsthand showed how difficult it is to bring simple financial services to market. They founded Vrtx to simplify that process by bringing together the infrastructure and operational capabilities required to embed financial services.

Regulatory Progress

Vrtx has received In-Principle Approval from the Saudi Central Bank, known as SAMA, for an Electronic Money Institution license. This milestone is an important step toward enabling wallets, payouts, card issuing, transfers, and transaction processing within the Kingdom's regulatory framework. The approval also signals confidence in the company's compliance-first approach to building financial infrastructure.

A Faster Path to Market

Instead of spending significant time building financial systems, connecting payment flows, and managing operations from scratch, companies can use Vrtx to activate financial solutions faster and with less complexity. The platform provides a secure test environment, guided workflows, and an operational layer built for scale. This approach aims to help companies move from idea to live operations in less time while maintaining stronger control over balances, transactions, and financial rules.

Sector Momentum

The announcement comes as Saudi Arabia's fintech sector continues to mature, supported by regulatory developments and increasing demand for digital financial services. Embedded finance enables non-financial businesses to offer financial products without becoming regulated entities themselves. Vrtx aims to serve a broad range of companies seeking to add such capabilities to their core offerings.

Founder's Vision

Mishal Bin Slimah, Co-Founder and CEO of Vrtx, described the company's vision as a hub of fintech capabilities that any company can pick from and build on based on what its product needs. He said building fintech products today is hard, and companies with a clear idea and real demand often spend years assembling core infrastructure, operations, and security before serving a single customer. The goal is to make fintech capability a standard building block for any business.

Investor Confidence

SC Ventures by Standard Chartered Country Lead for Saudi Arabia, Gabriel Heredia, said the investment reflects conviction in the growth of embedded finance in Saudi Arabia and the increasing role of financial infrastructure. Youcef Oudjidane, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at BYLD, noted that embedded finance has potential to become an important layer of economic infrastructure. He added that what gave BYLD conviction in Mishal was his understanding that innovation and regulation need to develop hand in hand.

The funding round highlights the growing role of embedded finance infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA region. With regulatory approval underway and support from established investors, Vrtx is positioned to help businesses integrate financial services without building them from scratch. The company's progress reflects the next stage of fintech development in the Kingdom.
