VitalFluid Raises €17.2 Million to Expand Sustainable Crop Protection Technology
Eindhoven-based agritech company VitalFluid has raised €17.2 million to support the international expansion of its sustainable crop protection technology. Invest-NL co-led the financing with a €4 million investment, while the round also includes a €2.7 million Innovation Credit from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, RVO. Alder Tree Investments and existing shareholders Horticoop, BOM, Future Food Fund, Graduate Ventures, Innovation Industries, VDL and Goeie Grutten also participated.
Sustainable Alternative to Chemical Crop Protection
VitalFluid is developing an alternative to conventional chemical crop protection as growers face tighter regulations, growing resistance to existing treatments and increasing concerns about biodiversity, water quality and chemical residues. The company uses water, air and electricity to produce a liquid designed to combat fungal diseases without leaving chemical residues on crops. Because the solution is produced on-site and can be applied using existing spraying equipment, growers can adopt the technology without substantially changing their established farming operations.
Commercial Validation in the United Kingdom
The technology has already moved beyond pilot testing and is being used commercially by strawberry growers in the United Kingdom. VitalFluid has converted trials into multi-year contracts and is currently applying its crop protection solution across more than 100 hectares of strawberry cultivation. This commercial deployment provides the company with practical validation that the technology can operate under professional growing conditions and at a scale suitable for broader agricultural adoption.
Expanding Into New Markets and Crops
VitalFluid plans to use the new financing to expand further across the UK while preparing to enter the United States and other international markets. The company also intends to extend the technology beyond strawberries to crops such as apples and grapes, increasing the range of agricultural applications it can address. At the same time, VitalFluid is working toward gaining access to the European market, which could eventually allow growers across the European Union to use its crop protection system.
Supporting More Sustainable Food Production
The investment reflects growing interest in agricultural technologies that can reduce dependence on conventional chemical products while maintaining effective crop protection. VitalFluid's approach combines biotechnology and on-site production to offer growers a practical alternative that can be integrated into existing farming systems rather than requiring entirely new infrastructure. Invest-NL sees the company as part of a broader opportunity to strengthen the Netherlands' agrifood innovation ecosystem while supporting technologies capable of making food production more sustainable and efficient.
VitalFluid's €17.2 million financing marks an important step in its transition from early commercial validation toward larger-scale international deployment. With commercial contracts already in place in British strawberry farming, the company is now preparing to expand across new crops, markets and regulatory jurisdictions. The additional capital is expected to help VitalFluid make its technology available to more growers seeking to reduce reliance on chemical crop protection while maintaining practical and scalable farming operations.
