Brazilian investment firm Ventoá has acquired a 30% stake in legaltech Factum IA, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to locate debtor assets in stalled judicial collection cases. The transaction valued Factum IA at approximately R$7 million in enterprise value, according to reporting by Exame INSIGHT. The deal positions Ventoá to expand Factum IA's platform across Brazil's credit recovery, banking, and legal sectors.
Transaction Details
Under the agreement, Ventoá purchased a 30% stake in Factum IA while valuing the startup at around R$7 million in enterprise value. The legaltech had been developed with limited resources in a bootstrap-style model, with its own entrepreneurs financing early construction. With the new backing, the company plans to offer its platform to banks, financial institutions, credit rights investment funds, securitization firms, and law firms.
A Large Market Challenge
Factum IA estimates that Brazil's judiciary ended the most recent period with 75.5 million active cases and an overall congestion rate of 62.6%. Within this total, more than 30 million enforcement proceedings are believed to be stalled because no assets have been located. The startup calculates that these paralyzed collections hold R$324 billion in the public sector and R$232 billion in the private sector, totaling R$556 billion in trapped assets.
Executive Perspectives
Menotti Franceschini, a Ventoá partner, said the biggest challenge in Brazilian asset recovery is not the absence of favorable court decisions but the distance between winning a case and actually receiving the amount owed. Factum IA founder Armando Zanin, a specialist in asset investigation, noted that conventional tools deliver fragmented data that professionals must connect manually. The startup seeks to automate this connection work across public and private information sources.
Platform Capabilities and Business Model
The platform crosses personal, corporate, equity, family, and legal process data to identify links that can guide collection efforts. It monitors changes in partner structures, corporate relationships, and ties between individuals and companies rather than providing isolated search results. Factum IA operates through corporate subscriptions and continuous portfolio monitoring, with no reliance on one-off queries.
Early Traction and Validation
According to Ventoá, Factum IA has already mapped R$400 million in outstanding debts and reports a 60% success rate in locating assets for cases that have been stalled for more than three years. These figures are provided by the company and have not been independently audited in the reporting available. Validation is expected to come through the first subscription contracts with financial institutions that the company intends to close with the new capital.
Ventoá's Portfolio Strategy
Ventoá has around two years of operations and holds 17 companies in its portfolio, with typical ownership stakes between 25% and 30%. The more than R$300 million figure corresponds to the value of these minority positions rather than the full value of all invested companies. The firm aims to grow its portfolio value to R$1 billion within five years.
The investment reflects growing interest in technology that can reduce inefficiencies in Brazil's credit recovery market, where billions of reais remain locked in stalled enforcement cases. By combining Factum IA's asset tracing capabilities with Ventoá's capital and network, the partners hope to convert dormant legal claims into recoverable value for creditors. The deal's ultimate impact will depend on whether the startup's reported success rates hold up across larger institutional portfolios.
