Calgary-based cybersecurity firm TechJutsu has launched its Caller Verify Universal Connector to combat rising voice-based cyberattacks. This innovative browser extension enables multi-factor authentication within any web application, addressing the vulnerabilities of outdated security questions. The tool aims to secure service desk interactions, a frequent target for sophisticated impersonation attempts.

Confronting the Surge in Voice Phishing

The digital threat landscape has seen a dramatic increase in voice-phishing, or vishing, attacks, which surged by over 400 percent in 2024. Cybercriminals are increasingly using AI-generated voice cloning and publicly available personal data to impersonate legitimate customers during support calls. This trend exposes service desks that rely on knowledge-based questions as a significant and often overlooked security risk.

The inspiration for the Universal Connector came directly from a client, one of Alberta's largest credit unions. CEO Tracey Nyholt explained that the client was concerned that even with online MFA, their service desk was vulnerable if an attacker knew a customer's personal details from social media. This real-world problem highlighted a widespread security gap that TechJutsu sought to close for all organizations.

A Universal Solution for Modern Workflows

The Caller Verify Universal Connector operates as a lightweight browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It functions as an overlay inside any web-based workflow, allowing support agents to trigger an identity check without leaving their application. Instead of asking for a mother's maiden name, an agent can send a secure MFA prompt directly to the caller's registered device.

This universal approach ensures compatibility across a vast array of platforms, including ServiceNow, Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, and even custom internal systems. By eliminating the need for native integrations, TechJutsu provides a flexible solution that can be deployed rapidly. This was a deliberate design choice to meet the diverse needs of clients using multiple web applications for support.

Boosting Security and Operational Performance

The primary benefit of the connector is a significant security upgrade, bringing high-assurance identity verification to the voice channel. Each successful verification is logged, aiding in audit and compliance requirements for organizations. This method aligns with Zero Trust principles by verifying every user request before granting access to sensitive actions like password resets.

Beyond security, the tool enhances operational efficiency by drastically reducing call handle times. An MFA push notification is typically approved in under ten seconds, far quicker than the process of asking and answering multiple security questions. This speed allows support teams to resolve high-risk interactions more quickly and securely, improving the overall customer experience.

The solution's strength is bolstered by its integration with leading identity providers like Okta. Alex Valenzuela, a Vice President at Okta, noted the importance of such tools in an era of AI-driven threats. He emphasized that bringing trusted Okta MFA directly into the browser helps organizations enforce secure authentication across all user journeys.

TechJutsu's Caller Verify Universal Connector represents a critical advancement in securing enterprise support channels against modern threats. By replacing fallible knowledge-based questions with robust MFA, the tool provides a practical, efficient, and universally applicable defense. The solution is now available on the Chrome Web Store, offering organizations a swift way to fortify their first line of support.
