Symbotic Inc., a leader in AI-enabled robotics technology for the supply chain, announced on Oct 13, 2026, that it has acquired cellumation GmbH, a Bremen, Germany-based automation company. The transaction adds the patented celluveyor, a software-driven sortation technology, to Symbotic’s growing portfolio. The deal is expected to help customers achieve higher performance, better space utilization, and lower system costs.

Beyond the Conveyor

The celluveyor is made up of hundreds of independently controlled, omnidirectional cells that can move an item in any direction. It does not simply move products; it decides where products should go while moving them. By replacing traditional conveyor-based sortation with this intelligent, software-driven surface, Symbotic expects to deliver more throughput and handle a wider range of products in a fraction of the space.

The technology is a key enabler for the next generation of inbound and outbound robotic cells. It is expected to simplify Symbotic’s cell architecture and free up critical warehouse space for storage and other high-value uses. The company also sees potential to reduce capital equipment costs for its customers across the supply chain.

Strategic Portfolio Expansion

Rick Cohen, Chairman and CEO of Symbotic, described cellumation’s technology as a game changer. He said bringing the celluveyor into the Symbotic portfolio will accelerate the company’s ability to help customers achieve higher performance, better space utilization, and lower system costs. Cohen added that the deal supports Symbotic’s continued push to advance physical AI across the supply chain.

The acquisition follows Symbotic’s recent purchases of ARMS Innovations and Fox Robotics. It adds another diversified, standalone product that will be sold directly to customers and other integrators while also being integrated into Symbotic’s solutions. This approach aligns with Symbotic’s broader strategy to build a portfolio of complementary automation technologies.

Proven Industry Applications

cellumation’s technology is particularly relevant in industries and markets where facility footprints are constrained and efficient use of space is increasingly critical. The system is already proving its value in live deployments for postal, e-commerce, and logistics operators worldwide. This real-world adoption highlights the broad applicability of the celluveyor beyond Symbotic’s core warehouse automation base.

Continued Operations and Leadership

cellumation will continue operating under its own name and serving its existing customers while growing its business. The company will remain a standalone operation in addition to being integrated into Symbotic’s systems, and it will also sell directly to customers and other integrators. Its founding team will continue to lead the business through the next phase of expansion.

Dr.-Ing. Hendrik Thamer, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of cellumation, said joining Symbotic provides the resources, scale, and strategic partnership needed to accelerate the company’s vision globally. He noted that cellumation will continue serving customers across multiple industries. Thamer and Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Dr.-Ing. Claudio Uriarte will remain with the company and continue leading its operations.

Accelerating European Presence

The acquisition also strengthens Symbotic’s presence in Europe at a time when demand for warehouse automation continues to rise. cellumation brings a proven track record of automation deployment across the region and established customer relationships. Its experienced local leadership team and accomplished regional organization are expected to support Symbotic’s expansion strategy.

The acquisition of cellumation positions Symbotic to deliver a more intelligent and space-efficient approach to sortation within its robotic systems. By combining the celluveyor with its existing automation portfolio, Symbotic aims to offer customers higher performance and lower costs while extending its reach in Europe. The transaction underscores Symbotic’s commitment to advancing physical AI and broadening its role across the global supply chain.
