Reykjavik-based fashion technology startup Sowilo has successfully closed a pre-seed funding round to accelerate the global expansion of its AI platform, Catecut. The investment coincides with the launch of its dedicated application on the Shopify App Store, making its technology more accessible to online retailers. This strategic move aims to automate and streamline the creation of product content for fashion brands worldwide, enhancing their e-commerce operations.

AI-Powered Automation for Fashion E-commerce

Catecut is a sophisticated product intelligence solution designed specifically for the fashion industry. The platform utilizes proprietary artificial intelligence to analyze product imagery, automatically identifying key design attributes and categories. From this analysis, it generates comprehensive product titles, detailed descriptions, and crucial metadata to fully populate online store pages without manual intervention.

The technology significantly reduces the time and resources retailers spend on content creation and management. By automating these tasks, Catecut allows brands to launch new products faster and maintain consistency across their digital storefronts. The platform is already being used by jewelry and apparel retailers in the United States and has been successfully piloted with large international enterprises.

Strategic Funding to Fuel Global Expansion

The pre-seed round attracted a diverse group of international investors, signaling strong confidence in Sowilo's vision. Key backers include Iceland's Kría fund, the Netherlands and India-based TGC Capital, and several angel investors from Iceland and Australia. This capital injection will be instrumental in driving the company's next phase of development and market penetration across key global regions.

Sowilo plans to use the new funds to aggressively expand its footprint in North America and Europe, primarily through its new Shopify application. Simultaneously, the company is accelerating its market entry into the dynamic Asia-Pacific region to capture emerging opportunities. This dual-pronged strategy positions Catecut to serve a wide spectrum of fashion retailers, from small brands to established enterprises.

Investor Confidence and Industry Recognition

Heiðrún Ósk Sigfúsdóttir, the founder and CEO of Sowilo, expressed her enthusiasm for the new partnerships. "We are happy to have expert investors support the next phase of our growth as we bring Catecut to new channels and markets," she stated. This support is crucial as the company aims to expand its reach to both emerging and established international fashion retail brands.

The investment from Kría carries particular weight, as highlighted by its CEO, Hrönn Greipsdóttir. She noted that Catecut was one of just 11 companies chosen from 88 applicants for the Frumsjóður 25 investment initiative. This selective process underscores the platform's innovative potential and the strength of Sowilo's business model in a competitive landscape.

Targeting the Asia-Pacific Market

Sowilo's ambitions in the Asia-Pacific are supported by more than just its recent funding round. The company was awarded a Tækniþróunarsjóður grant to specifically market Catecut in Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. This grant provides dedicated resources to build brand awareness and drive adoption in these important and growing e-commerce markets.

Further validating its regional strategy, Catecut was selected as an exhibitor for the National Retail Federation's NRF APAC Big Show Innovator Showcase. The company will also be present at The Retail Show in Melbourne, Australia, later in the year. These high-profile appearances will provide valuable exposure and networking opportunities as Sowilo establishes its presence in the region.

With fresh capital and a newly launched Shopify app, Sowilo is well-positioned to revolutionize how fashion retailers manage their online product content. The strategic backing from international investors and targeted expansion plans for North America, Europe, and APAC signal a new era of growth for the company. Catecut's innovative AI-driven solution addresses a critical need in the e-commerce space, promising greater efficiency for brands globally.
